Re: More Bling!

Welcome to the team reecehaigh . Have a look at our stats website in a few days time to see how you're getting on, and maybe pick up a team signature if you want one.

Welcome on board reecehaigh cool

Update on new CPU's, I installed the 8260M's yesterday but had to update the BIOS/Firmware so that the board would recognise them, annoyingly this has stopped the NVMe drives from working neither Win10 nor Ubuntu boot, both claim missing files. Anyhow I was only interested in benching the chips so stuck in a SATA drive with Ubuntu. Immediate result was the power draw, up to ~460w from ~350w which is fair as the chips are 2.2ghz to 2.9ghz 'all-core' and being a generation newer I'm expecting some good payback from that. Initial eyeballing of tasks didn't look like there was any big drop in task run-time so I'll leave it going (and heating the room) for a few days and take a view then.

Will do,
If the 8260's had upped the performance on day 1 it would all have made sense however it's not that easy, despite churning through so many watts only MCM are appropriately faster the other projects appear to be slower. I just cant make sense of it so I've switched to 100% OPN on three boxes, two with QL1K's and the other with the new CPU's. Will run like this till Sunday which should give meaningful results.
The only meaningful diffs between the boxes is one of the QL1K's has slightly faster RAM 2933 rather than 2666Mhz. Up till now though that hasn't given it any edge TBH.

I've now prepared your new signature reduk. I hope you'll like it. All you have to do is get to a billion team points, which should take you about 7 weeks I reckon smile

We need more wind!

Hi everyone. Hope you're doing OK. Nothing much to report, other than the disappointingly high electricity prices, meaning my crunching has been a bit below par recently. However, my Agile Octopus tariff is still saving me money. If you're interested, have a look at the graphs I've produced here:

https://36arn.co.uk/energy/graphs.html

If you're really interested, I'll refer you so we both get £50 credit.
Anyway, I hope you all have a "Jolly Merry Little Christmas" (or whatever rubbish Boris was going on about), and stay safe and well.
