I bet it's warmer! Hope the rest of the trip goes/went smoothly. Actually today it's supposed to hit the heady heights of 7deg here so can't complain.Your bet is correct mac1. Got home only 1 hour after landing in Santa Cruz, all bags intact and unmolested by customs. Temperature here this morning is 32 at 10:15 am @Genhos, yep seems that way with images so I was wondering if there was any appetite for a dedicated forum for this team? I dummied something up last night just to check images can be pasted in and it seems most modern forums can do it, here's one I prepared earlier made from PHPBB UK Crunchers under 'Project Behaviour' there's an image from Dave's brilliant site showing his project productivity page.It was just a bit of fun to highlight the point and create a discussion but maybe we should setup a group on one of the big social networks ... thoughts, ideas? cheers We have a dedicated WCG Team UK page on Facebook that I administer. If you wish to join then you MUST send me your WCG alias along with your request so that I know that only Team UK members are part of this closed group. Without exception all Team UK members will be allowed to join. Just keeping things tidy! PS on this matter I have a request from Richard Drage but I don't know if he is a member of Team UK or not. If you are reading this Richard, send me your alias and I'll add you to the Facebook group.

The forum on WCG is pretty dreadful, mac1, but I guess it's not their priority. I offered to put up an alternative Team UK bulletin board a couple of years ago before I did the stats site, but there wasn't any interest sadly.

Thanks guys, I'll look the Facebook group up next time I'm on it.
----------------------------------------Dave if you do go ahead with the Bulletin Board count me in Mr Zuckerberg is probably rich enough! No disrespect WCG, it's truly staggering what has been/is being achieved with volunteer efforts, there is hope for humanity ... and a heater for my office, thank you! cheers,
cheers,

Morning All,
----------------------------------------That PC I strangled with a weeks worth of FAH WU's has finally churned them out. Each one stated it would take 57mins to complete but actually took 5hours, at least now it can get back to a steadier output. It looks like recent FAH WU's are behaving better (3hrs quoted, 4 hours elapsed). That PC is an i7 3770 so isn't too shabby but I have to say my recently quietened server (from 2009) is beating it with a pair of Xeon 5420L's, each node is getting ~50k points/day. I don't think I could cope with it in the summer though my study is 25deg with the door open Statistics Date Total Run Time Here's that PC - the text pastes ok actually, when it's set to 'code' it retains the spacing. Ignore the 26th that was me. cheers,
cheers,

Well, the post I put in the BOINC Agent Issues forum (about this MacBook being unusable to control remote-servers via BOINC Manager) has had plenty of views but no replies!

So how have you quietened your server, mac1? I got an i5-6600 (with a four disk raid array) and an i7-6700, in a 1.8m square "micro-study", and they're pretty much inaudible even when flat out on WCG. Enormous heatsinks though

My study is 27 C without the computers running - I noticed that during my absence in the UK the windows and doors had been closed so goodness only knows what temperature was reached! ![]()

Nice Dave, bet the 6th gen are efficient, my 5420's aren't even 1st gen
---------------------------------------- it was a 2U rack server (Dell C6100) in it's former life, I've taken the four motherboards out and stacked them up they're about 16cm wide and 40cm long each, the heatsinks are tiny (~30mm height). I've put them all in an Aerocool Dreambox case (you can literally make any shape from that), mounted a 20cm fan on the front and another on the back and threw the 4x 80mm fans in the bin. Next up was the two power supplies, each had 2x 38mm screaming high pressure fans - totally unneccessary now they have a 140mm fan. It was 75db with all 8 cpu's on 100% it's now down to 46db under the same conditions, which is fine. The 12 disk back pane I've just mounted on the top of the motherboards and it aint pretty... but functional. My flat is heated with electric panel heaters which is a complete waste, this is a far more fun way of generating heat - 600w worth. ![]() It could be water cooled or maybe eight heat pipe tower heatsinks but the box was only £250 on ebay 3 years ago so isn't about to get a luxury makeover ![]()
