Re: Beta Testing VINA on Android Devices - July 9, 2013 - Issues Thread

Greetings,

We have started sending work for FightAIDS@Home - VINA for Android. We still have plenty of work to send out :)

Thanks,
-Uplinger

I just noticed, which is why I'm here checking the boards smile

Got a couple. They're running.

Re: Beta Testing VINA on Android Devices - July 9, 2013 - Issues Thread

so im an idiot- How do i install this on another phone- I go to the playstore on phone 2 and it tells me i've already got it installed (and i do on phone 1) no download button that i can see:(

I'll bet it has something to do with the fact that all Android devices are named "localhost". Once you get it installed on "localhost" then you are finished.

Might be a good idea to post a question over on the Google Group that Rom monitors.

Try copying the .apk file you downloaded from the first phone to a memory card and then launch it on the second phone.

What type of machine is your second device. Could be that it does no qualify for the client. Also, have you tried going to the play store in your browser on your computer. It usually has the option to install remotely.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.berkeley.boinc

It may also tell you which of your devices qualify. Remember that the Beta is associated with a google id, so if your phone is registered to google play under another id, then it will not be able to download the application.

Thanks,

No, he is saying that if you have a different Google ID associated with the other phone, that you wouldn't be able to download. If it is the same ID, it SHOULD allow you to download unless it is somehow a restricted device. Or, you could always take my previous suggestion and just copy the file that has already been downloaded to the other device and use that.

i will have to try this. but tomorrow as phone 2 is... here, and phone 1 is....there. seems like the same ID/localhost is an issue and there isn't any straight "download button" i can see. whether i'm on the phone, or a pc, the page gives me the its already installed on my phone 1 i guess because my google id says that dev is who i am:)
thanks to everyone who posted, i'll get back asap!
only been up for 35 hours sraight so it's maybe something that a few hours sleep will help.

Re: Beta Testing VINA on Android Devices - July 9, 2013 - Issues Thread

Jeanma,

If you open up "Preferences", then select "Show advanced preferences and controls", there are options for "Used CPU cores", "CPU limit", and "Pause at CPU usage above". From what I can tell, those do not get downloaded from the device profiles on the web page, they need to be set independently. You can try reducing those so the device runs without having to stop for battery cool downs.

Yoro42,

I'm using the Berkeley BOINC and have no problem with power off, unplug, run on battery until it gets to a minimum level, etc. You might want to consider switching over to the Berkeley version. They are constantly updating the software, a new version (7.2.4) came out just last night.

Hope that helps,
CaptainJack

Added my Android phone to the test. Received 2 Beta units. One for each project.
