Also, a badge for anyone who returns at least 1 wu to show the effort. Hopefully we don't reduce ourselves to that |

Not wanting to spoil the enthusiasm for the creation of new badges for runtimes (or for that matter any other feature request), but I think that getting the PSW (project-settings-webpage) synchronized with the new app_config -- may get more contribution* from existing crunchers with the possibility of also attracting new crunchers to the WCG fold -- by way of an easy-to-use, WYSIWYG, or otherwise an intuitive mechanism for ordering/requesting** WUs.
Notes: *else minimize wastage from crunchers (existing or new) who may not have the time, nor want to invest in the time and the attendant effort and expense -- to understand how to order/request for WUs. For example, I have unavoidably, and much to my dislike -- thrown away a considerable amount of doneWUs attendant to my efforts to understand the intricacies of how the app_config (vis-a-vis the PSW) work together. **The current mechanism for a cruncher to order/request WUs is by way of the PSW. How the WUs are scheduled/ordered to run on a client's machine is by way of the (new) mechanism in app_config. Crunchers who may not be aware of the app_config are left with the PSW to 'struggle' with. I say 'struggle' because a cruncher will have to go through a circuitous loop before getting exactly what that cruncher may have wanted. There should be no such issues if purely for-CPU-only WUs are involved; the 'struggle' only happens once that cruncher wants to involve for-the-GPU WUs. And where does the growth potential point to? GPUs, that's where! But the current form of the WU-ordering-mechanism (PSW vis-a-vis app_config) doesn't make it easy as much as possible for as wide and as many of the total-cruncher-population (exsisting, new, and potential) -- to get into the WCG GPU-computing game. ; ; andzgridPost#761 ; |

To clarify further.
----------------------------------------I want CPU work / for what project? / HFCC Not for HCC / Computing for LENR is also 'not for HCC' / Within WCG For other projects / what other projects? / HFCC but not all other projects / does that include the project at POEM? / No (Within WCG) I.e. there is no way to get HCC GPU WUs without getting HCC CPU WUs or (potentially) WUs from all other projects (outside of app_info). Now I have my sapphire HFCC badge, this isn't a problem anymore. I can happily use the aforementioned workaround and get GPU tasks, with CPU for all projects bar HCC. However, this will be a problem again should DDDT2 or CFCW start flowing, or another project begins that I do not wish to crunch for. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by cw64 at Dec 23, 2012 6:47:25 PM] |

app_info/app_config the point being not solely from the project selection page, and not without messing with configuration files, losing cache.
----------------------------------------Do you lose cache changing the app_config? ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by cw64 at Dec 23, 2012 9:53:11 PM] |

As far as I tested it, nope. The cache stays as it was prior to changes. ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Hello cw64
----------------------------------------I'm still not clear of what exactly you aim at. Let me see If a table would help. Please duplicate the table below and supply an 'x' under the CPU or GPU column for what you are aiming at. Project__CPU__GPU SNS2 GFAM DSFL CEP2 HCMD2 HFCC HCC HPF2 FAAH C4CW DDDT For example, if you want DSFL CPU only, write: "DSFL__x__0". If you want HCC GPU only, write: HCC__0__x. If you want HCC CPU and HCC GPU, write: HCC__x__x. If there is any project you don't want (either CPU or GPU) then strike out the project-name entry from the table. ; ; andzgridPost#764 ; [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 25, 2012 2:15:05 PM] |
