Re: ETA on GPU project selection?

Astrolabe - I do wish that we had the capacity to implement many more of these things quickly. However, we have to balance/prioritize the full set of tasks.

One of the items that is causing this to be moved out further is that we are looking at doing a significant usability study that will drive work that we do to improve the overall experience of being a volunteer here. This study will feed work by an information architect/user experience designer who hope provides us good insights and recommendations to improve the usability of the system. Since the project selection page/device profiles are pages that are already complex and need additional capability added, we are certain they will be significantly overhauled based on the results study. As a result, we are hesitant to make significant modifications before we get the results of this feedback. That work is going to take some time get completed which is part of the delay.

knreed, what I hear is excellent news. Do you plan in this redesign study also to look for implementing additional badges ?

Re: ETA on GPU project selection?

ETA: 2Q or 3Q 2013.
Wow, isn't that great. One person wants something fixed that already can be made to work and in a couple of weeks gets a 6-9 month response time. Expanding the recognition for our volunteer work which has been requested for more than 2 years still ........................

Potentially - we are looking in general for a study of user motivation/engagement and what we can do to drive long term growth. There are certainly no lack of ideas from either the volunteers, from the technical support team, from the research scientists, or from the sponsors. What we don't have is a well done study to look at all of these perspectives from an objective view to help focus on critical items to help growth[new volunteers + better retention + better experience for existing members]. I fear that I have too high of hopes for the study (much like I fear I have too high of hopes for The Hobbit), but I think we will get some interesting data and information from it.

[OT]I hated (and still hate) LOTR, thus have less expectations from Hobbit, thus I might be only positively surprised when I will see it somewhen in future raised eyebrow [/OT]

Good to know that WCG's 'brain' is well fed and getting a lot of input ideas. That's the good part. The not-so-good part is...

What we don't have is a well done study to look at all of these perspectives from an objective view to help focus on critical items to help growth[new volunteers + better retention + better experience for existing members]. <emphasis by andzgrid>
...how to make sense of all the ideas! wink I'm all for the study, lest we may be overlooking some key area(s) in the WCG's grid-operations including how much of that grid-operations' growth-propects is influenced by crunchers from their user-experience, and how much of that user-experience in turn would influence how WCG is to evolve.

I like what guys from Seti.Germany did for their own purposes. Existing sapphire badges with stars in corners for 5, 10, 25 and 50 years.

Cheers and NI!

Re: ETA on GPU project selection?

Anything to show more than 2 years would be nice to have. Also, a badge for anyone who returns at least 1 wu to show the effort.
