Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

Hi nanoprobe

I don't get a choice in how many WU's run

With GPUGrid as it's only a percentage of teh CPU Core the remaining bit gets used by a WCG WU. This all plays nicely - all 7 WU's

On WCG HCC Beta it uses 1 full CPU Core and 1 full GPU so only 5 CPU cores remaining
6 WU's

This doesn't play nicely and as a result I'm typing this on a Xubuntu Lappy running 4 DSFL's without any apparant ill effects biggrin

Dave

..and I was going to go to bed early and get some badly needed shuteye - Doh! - then Kevin dishes up these beta's d oh

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

I got a whole bunch of beta WUs. So far all are either valid, pending or in progress. During the previous beta all the few WUs errored out with exit code 293. But this time no errors so far...looking good. All WUs had a run time of 0.02h on my hd7970

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

If I have a mix of POEM and WCG tasks running I get betas. If I'm running POEM only I get nada.

Maybe it is because I am excluding the WCG CPU tasks on this machine that I don't get the GPU tasks (or even request them) when POEM is running. But it won't matter after HCC-GPU goes online, since I will devote both of my HD 7770s to it full-time.

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

... and another thing wink

On GPUGrid I can run 7 WU's on a 6 core machine. With HCC Beta's it seems to consume a whole CPU Core for the duration (maybe this is the source of the juddering)

The Betas fully used both cores of my E8400 to feed the two HD 7770s without judder, so I think it has more to do with GPU utilization. (I use GPU-Z to check it).

Maybe the difference between the AMD and Nvidia architecture has something to do with it too, but I have seen cases where my Nvidia cards worked fine on the desktop with some other program requiring 80 or 90% GPU utilization, but fell apart at 99%. However, other factors such as PCIe 2.0 vs. 3.0 bus speeds may play a part too.

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

keep 'em coming - my points score for the day will be approx 100,000 just from running the HCC Beta's - that's with a duty cycle on the GPU of about 80%

I found that on POEM I was getting at least 85,000 PPD on each HD 7770 at about 16%. It is a crime, but I don't know what to do about it.

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

Received about 500 WUs the past 18 hours on 6 mixed amd/nvidia GPUs.
About 100 (20%) randomly error with "GPU not found" all on the Nvidia GPUs (GTX570, GTX560ti & GTX550ti)
All GPUs AMD & Nvidia runs very cool indicating that they are not fully utilized to their full capability.

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

I get this in the error log (just a few lines):
<core_client_version>6.10.58</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
More data is available. (0xea) - exit code 234 (0xea)
</message>

...

Error: cl_khr_local_int32_base_atomics extension required by this program is not supported

Is it correct to assume that my GPU won't be able to crunch HCC WUs? (It's a mobile NVIDIA GTX260M). This is the first time I get some GPU-Beta jobs.

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

everything that came my way so far seems to have errored on hd 5870

Interested to know;

The verbose reporting of this as seen in previous posts.... Do I need to set flags?

or is this not seen in Event Log?

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

I had the following issues:

First my BOINC was set to "use GPU never" and the BETA task where started anyways with high priority. After a few seconds the task stopped with error.
Other GPU projects wait for the setting to be set to "Use GPU always" before starting GPU tasks.

Second, when I enabled GPU usage, BOINC tried to start more GPU task than I have available GPU cores. These task also stopped after a few second with error. This is probably the same issue, GPU tasked are started without an available GPU core.

Third after two GPU task finished the completion time on the remaining CPU task increased by 10x, confusing the scheduler and running random task at high priority.

Re: HCC Beta Test 9/5/2012 Post problems here

To those whose work units appear to be sticking at 99.415% give them chance before aborting

It's seems to run on the cpu for approx 28 seconds which I think the cPU must be being used to upack the work unit - then the GPU get's its chance and then once this section is complete at 99.415% the cpu looks like it packs it up ready to be send across your internet connection this takes around 30 seconds. I can't find tilda on this linux keyboard - I have had to abandon the windoes box while it is completing the beta's

Is this the case or are they really stuck

I left it going for about 25 minutes, before finally manually aborting mine...
