Any updates on GPU testing for OSX?

I know Beta testing is ongoing for Windows and Linux GPU science apps. Any timeframe for OSX support? All OSX systems since 10.6.0 have have OpenCL support baked into the OS standard. I think 10.6 came out in 2008.

Re: Any updates on GPU testing for OSX?

Hello Bernd Schnitker,

devilish Right now the usual question in the GPU Support Forum is about when will any GPU testing be done. We are having problems with the BOINC Server 700 code, which seems to have brought GPU support to a halt.

So . . . no OSX testing in the near future. Just out of my own curiosity - - What GPU board are you planning to run under OSX ?

confused

Re: Any updates on GPU testing for OSX?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini with its built in Nvidia 320M a slightly uprated 9600 equivalent. I know the newer macs have either better ATI/Nvidia GPUs or one of the built in Intel ones. Depends on the chips used. I know the newest have an Intel 4000HD? and a discrete GPU.

Re: Any updates on GPU testing for OSX?

Per knreed, first finishing beta and launching for Windows, and then Linux and later still OS-X [or the other way around... CRE], but not anytime soon. If the Windows GPU runs to satisfaction, only then the next challenge will be started on.

Re: Any updates on GPU testing for OSX?

I do not want to start new thread, so I will hijack this one :-)

In the new announcement https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33741 there is not stated for which OS's will be beta WU's distributed. I would like to ask if I can expect any for my openCL ATI GPU on MAC OS X 10.8.1?

Thanks in advance for answer.

Cheers and NI!

Re: Any updates on GPU testing for OSX?

branjo, as was stated by techs [knreed is the man running the show on this], Linux and OS-X wont be worked on until the Windows version is well and truly moved to production and running stable. *Only then* will they be looked looking at Linux/OS-X. Can't remember which order. Visit posts by knreed.

Hope I'll catch some when I get home to my PC... praying

By the way, is this already happening? (GPU WUs being distributed as we speak) worried

Re: Any updates on GPU testing for OSX?

OK, thank you SekeRob. I know Windows OS prevails on PC market, but small bit of info regarding OS in such announcements would avoid not-that-smart questions from users as I am :-)

Ciao.

Subscribe to the Beta Read Only forum [set up a watch with *No Digest*], and you get mailed anytime activity is announced. 99.9% of the beta testing is prefaced by a post in that forum.

(Wish I could subscribe to tech posts in general, no matter where posted).

Guessing yes, because my BOINC Manager started to request tasks for ATI at WCG.

Good luck and NI! :-)
