Any WCG staff able to chime in as to when OSX(My personal preference)/ Linux (Not my personal preference) beta testing for GPUs starts?
At the start of the thread some of the staff said it should start shortly after Windows beta testing ended. It has so any updates from staff? |

since it is not known if HCC will get WUs after the given "120 days", is it valuable to spend time developing linux/osX GPU core ?

It IS, because there's material to work with and *learn*, for when a next GPU fit science is in the offering.
----------------------------------------As for work, refer to what scientists have shared pertaining to data sets processed. The very speed will invite others around the world to send their data to Toronto for consideration to include. Who knows, will it turn intermittent at some point, like SIMAP [just personal speculations] [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 19, 2012 8:09:20 AM] |

Of course it is reasonable to work out GPU WU's for some stable systems such as Linux and Mac OS X. Thanks Gods, WCG technical staff (and probably researchers) recognizes this and they are doing their work to solve this issue

OK any updates on OSX Beta testing? I was busy for the last 2 weeks so I want to poke the staff and remind them I am willing to help out when OSX Beta testing of GPU apps starts.

Based on the numbers here: http://boincstats.com/en/stats/15/host/breakdown/os/0/4/0 there are approaching triple the number of Linux WCG installs than there are of OSX. (157,379 Linux compared to 58,181 OSX). I would suggest it to be more productive to implement a Linux GPU application than an OSX version as a next step.

Still in the back room. HCC is our opportunity to make WCG GPU-ready for all our current operating systems. So we are not ignoring OSX. We have to work on updating WCG just to run on OSX Mountain Lion and Windows 8.

OP has not said a word about not implementing Linux into WCG GPU shrubbing. He has just asked about plan involving Mac OS X. So, keep smiling and wish you all the best in your own research about number of crunchers using certain OS. Troll. NI! Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. I'm not trolling at all, n00b, I'm pointing out that it makes more practical sense for a Linux client to be developed before, but not instead of, an OSX client based on the number of installs. Since literacy and reasoning do not appear to be your strong suits, that difference in install numbers would logically suggest that the OSX client won't be dropping in the next few weeks and will probably come after the Linux client. We are very close to starting our internal alpha testing for GPU on Linux and OS X. With the general issues flushed out on Windows I would expect the alpha testing to go smoothly and there should be beta for Linux and OS X soon.
Thanks, armstrdj |
