Glad to hear that people are getting their uploads done. We found some new clues today that we are hopeful might lead us to the root issue. Based on that we have implemented some changes that might be helping to throttle the worst of the upload/download issues (if the theory is correct). We will see what happens overnight. As you have noted above, the changes have not helped. Things are up and running now and we continue to investigate. |

On the previous page, tonyh205 asked:
[snip] I believe that the Internet access check uses a port 80 request to 129.42.60.216, alias www.ibm.com. As my Internet connection seems good when this happens, why might the "BOINC can't access Internet ..." error be occurring? Could it be 2,000,000+ devices all trying that same thing? Even if they only test the connection once every 5 minutes, that's over 6,600 per second... and usually after the first failure BOINC tries again 1 minute later, then 2 minutes later, et cetera... so I'm sure they're seeing periods where the servers are getting hit more than 6,600 times per second. |

ZoSo, that seems a good enough reason, thanks!

Well, the problem seems to have shifted a bit over night, now hosts seem to be able to upload/download, but can't report afterwards....

Well, the problem seems to have shifted a bit over night, now hosts seem to be able to upload/download, but can't report afterwards.... I'm still getting issues with both uploads/downloads and reporting, to be honest... ![]() |

I believe that the Internet access check uses a port 80 request to 129.42.60.216, alias www.ibm.com. As my Internet connection seems good when this happens, why might the "BOINC can't access Internet ..." error be occurring? It takes two to Tango. A client's (internet) connection will seem to have failed when accessing a website that is down. Another thing, as I've observed, is that the failed communication is true for one sub-second and working again for the next sub-second. Thus, in as little a time-span as one full second, you have a BOINC-client stating contradicting messages in the event-log.; |
