I kind of suspected this would work. If you have an electric dryer and don't want to wrestle with the stove you can always plug your 220 cord in there. Like Keith said, just make sure you cut the main breaker that feeds your house off so you're not powering the neighborhood. ![]() Nano, I'm intrigued as you must have one heck of a hair dryer. There's no way I could physically plug my 220 cord into anything that's not a 220 receptacle. The plug's at least two to two and a half times as big as any 110 plug and the prongs are arranged in a circle. I'm no electrician but I understand a 220 line is wired differently though it may still be a three wire line. I understand that it's possible to have a generator connected to where it kicks on automatically during an outage but that requires some work by an electrician and uses what's called a transfer switch to connect the power from your generator to those specific circuits you want supplied. As I understand it, a generator that only has 110 output cannot power any 220 devices (typically a/c, furnace, and the like). It also needs to have enough wattage to supply the demand possible on the circuits it will connect to. Anyone wanting to do something like this should definitely talk to an electrician first. Captain Keith i am sure he said clothes dryer as they are 220v--and from there you can run most things in the house--i have a 12000 watt Honda generator that has a 220 receptacle and plug it into the 220 for the clothes dryer ![]() ![]() |

12000W Gerald? Wow! With that, I could leave the whole house on. Actually you cannot as long using your current concept. You cannot feed hold house through stove wires... If you take a look at those cables/fuses that are originally designed to feed your house and compare those that are feeding your stove, you can very easily notice that those originals are very much larger on diameter and values... So when using this stove feed system, you are feeding your house via narrow band and when you exceed it's capability to move energy, you hopefully burn stove fuses. If that does not happen, then you will burn stove wires/hold house... ![]() |

I was running it through the dryer outlet with a separate line to the water heater but have since the last storm installed a generator switch which connects to the house before the meter--i just throw the switch and it connects to the generator-- hurricane Isabelle made a believer out of me --we lost power for 12 days ![]() ![]() |

I am not an electrician, but I seem to recall that, at least in Minnesota, a transfer switch is mandatory if you are running any kind of current through your household wiring/breaker box etc. this is precisely for the reason stated previously: to isolate your house from backfeeding into the electrical grid and potentially harming others. Perhaps an electrician or electrical distribution engineer or two could chime in and set the record straight.
----------------------------------------Cheers
Sgt. Joe
