Hey Chrisst14(n?)
Thanks for joining the discussion. I think you, Lionel and me are actually the only /. members to ever have posted in these forums. I hope more /. crunchers will read and let us know that they care about crunching for the WCG. So, is there anybody else from the slashdot crowd out here? And if so, what would you need in a forum to keep you interested and coming back to this place? Do you care about competition? Do you want to give up crunching for /.? Why or why not? Does it need a poll? Does it need news update tickers? Does it need progress reports? Does it need humanitarian information from NGO`s? Doe sit need add-campaign discussions? Does it need a donation paypal thing? Are you against stuffed teddybears? The same questions go for every other team out here of course. Cheers! [NOT edited for profanity by Nelsoc. Yet.] |

How's that for an alternative point of view, DAJ? ![]() Well first off, your silence was pretty short lived and you must have been near bursting in your self imposed exile since this was one of the longest posts I've seen ![]() On the particular topic I find the article by the Muslim editor pointing at the Muslims themselves as the issue an interesting point of view. Your view that this is more than geopolitical is correct I think, but I don't know that I agree with your conclusion that the religious issues are irrational or a biologically driven impulse. I see what you are trying to say but I think the driving force is important to acknowledge. Both (all?) sides of the conflict have deeply held convictions. Is this irrational just because they are strongly held views? It seems to me that belief in God is not the issue. As the muslim writer points out, many of the muslims don't agree with the methods being used by radicals and the same holds for people on the Christian / Jewish sides. Moderate and even non-radical conservative members of each group may believe the "others" belief's are flawed but looking at their own faith they find teachings that such conflict is not Godly. Unfortunately there are some on all sides that will go to extremes that say the others must be wiped out since they don't agree. In additon, those interested in power will use the faith as a cover to covet and try to take that power. Your point is that this conflict will not be solved by viewing it a a geopolitical conflict misses the point that the warfare is not driven by true following of the faiths inolved but by the, may I say it, sin of each side, which ignores God's teachings regarding how to treat one another. The driving force is not religious but un-Godly humans who are showing their nature. My point assumes the existance of God - but that is a whole 'nother topic. I suspect from your post you may not be in that camp. I'm sure this post will increase the /. and tribal war participation in WCG ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 20, 2005 2:42:29 AM] |

Yeah, great job Graham. That definitely set the topic back on track.
