where did this drama come from? ![]() We're desperate! We could always invite Regg & Orby over to post. Hell they would be happy to post even if nobody listened to them. Well, at least they'd be used to it. |

As I wrote earlier, I added my older computer on the grid.
----------------------------------------At least one TW member is completely off the bounds in this topic... He is not completely wrong, but as David pointed out, his post is what seems indeed to be the usual lack of respect of TribalWar. I did not know of TribalWar before coming on WCG, but the way some members of it are behaving in this topic do not make me want to know more about them or TribalWar... I'm used to attending boards whose moderation is strong, and I support strong moderation. On some of these boards, moderators/admins can lock posts post from non-moderator users' sight, ban (kick) users from single topics, etc. |

I agree with so many others that there are two major reasons for the slackoff.
1. No client "upgrades". I don't mean just new versions. What about the Linux version? What about the Multi-Processor version? We're sick and tired of "it's coming". When?? WCG is as bad as Duke Nukem Forever (a joke /.s will get). 2. The forums are not that user friendly. They're not horrible, but a LOT could be done. I've seen no progress here either. WCG is alienating users, not because they have been found wanting, but because they do nothing about it. WCG constantly says "we're working on it", but I never see any results. Seems like alot of empty promises, to me anyway. |

WCG constantly says "we're working on it", but I never see any results. Seems like alot of empty promises, to me anyway. I feel it is time to add my 2 cents 1. Client upgrades What is this? “We’re sick and tired” rubbish!; speak for your self, not the majority of the members here. Are you aware of the ramifications of writing a secure agent, including most of the features that you have asked to be included? It then has to go through Alpha Testing, then Beta Testing to arrive at the final software program, which has to be able to process work units in an encrypted format to ensure that no tampering of the results has taken place. Believe me, this takes a formidable amount of time and patience to ensure the accuracy of the results it is designed to process. 2. The Forums IBM is a Multi Billion Dollar Corporation who is not about to be the backers of a Forum full of verbal bile and bad language. How sad, when a person’s vocabulary fails them, they have to resort to profanity to express their feelings I have made over 1700 posts without the need to use bad language in these forums I don’t see why members feel that the Forums are so user unfriendly because the WCG Staff feel that it is appropriate to remove unjustified bad language. I agree that members are entitled to freedom of speech, however I also feel sure it can be done in a mature and dignified manner. 3. The purpose of this thread I feel confident that David Autumns did not start this thread with any malicious intentions In my opinion it was just a wake up call to Slashdot and Tribalwar to help to further the progress of the current project. Some of the members here, appear to be taking the spirit of this thread way too seriously We all joined the World Community Grid ultimately to provide our spare computing cycles in an effort to further the progress of finding cures for debilitating diseases These Forums were originally established to allow members to find answers to problems they were having with installing and running the WCG Rosetta Program Over time it has grown into a community where members can get information about the progress of the project and help them to find a Team to join to allow them to have a little more interaction with other team members It is not a prerequisite of running the software that a member has to visit the forums, as is evidenced by the small amount of members that do post here The type of members that take the time to read and post messages here, are, in my opinion, a lot more enthusiastic about the project than the majority of the members of the WCG as a whole and do not necessarily represent the overall opinion on how this project is progressing Please note: WCG added a Chat Forum for the purposes of discussing off topic subjects, which appears to have gotten overlooked So in conclusion please stop whining and nit picking every little thing you can find to complain about This is not the way to ingratiate your self in the eyes of the majority of the reasonably content members here. If you want drama and controversy of epic proportions go and join TribalWar and get ripped to shreads In the meantime lets just try to get along with each other and be a little more patient with the programmers efforts to get a Linux Version ready as soon as is reasonably possible. Hello, Graham.
The whole thing really is aggrevating, isn't it? On whole, most people are probably just making a reasonable statement of fact, such as, "We could get more involvement if .... Linux .... multi-processor ...." that's all. At times the message may get overshadowed by a growing impatience at what seems to be unnecessary and excessively slow progress in these technical areas. But that is not the main point of these posts. As to the issues about the Forum, this topic has been repeatedly beat to death enough already. Suffice to say that the use of profanity is of minor importance. It appears that some members would like to see the Forums be more open, relaxed and inviting of a diversity of thought, opinions and content apart from Rosetta, WCG or team recruitment related topics. However, it appears that the bottom line is now clear. Apparently it had long ago been decided that this Forum was designed to function strictly as a technically oriented support site; a source of information dissemination; and as a recruitment tool for corporate WCG - and nothing else. Since the one thing that we all have in common is our desire to participate in the Rosetta Project, then this will just have to be enough. So I suggest that we simply leave this whole thing alone and just move on from here. PS - Graham, don't you think that it is awfully cruel of you to invite the unsuspecting to the "snake pit" without at least some kind of warning first? ![]() |

If technical speak and recruiting is the sole purpose I think growth will be stifled....just my tuppence worth. Completely agree re the profanity tho....totally unnecessary. |

PS - Graham, don't you think that it is awfully cruel of you to invite the unsuspecting to the "snake pit" without at least some kind of warning first? ![]() ![]() ![]() I had a bet this morning that you could not resist reiterating facts that you have already beaten to death As usual you are running true to form I would observe your last comment as a rather cynical remark coming from someone who feels the need to voice his negative opinions, invited or not, at every given opportunity that may arise. You certainly are a dramatist, Julied It might help to look on the bright side and consider the fact that we are doing tremendously well considering all the issues that keep arising from impatient members These are being addressed as we speak and every effort is being made to release the updates as soon as is humanly possible ![]() |
