cheers and many thanks for achieving this step so smoothly [from our outside perspective] Yes that was impressive!--//-- And now I think I can really say it, "I love it when a plan comes together!" ![]() |

Various mechanisms have been discussed in this thread [an "how to" included on setting the client to autonomously resume after the expected outage] and some suggestions such as the WCG server bouncing any client that connects hours prior to the outage. Just thinking, a redirect mechanism that steps in to bounce clients for a preset amount of time. I need to go back and read the discussions, but it would be nice for me to be able to set a parameter so that I can tell the clients to retry a random time between [2:00 UTC - 5:00 UTC] for example. The idea is that I'll know I'll be up then and the server will tell client to backoff until a random time during that window. I'll have to take a look after we get the server code updated. Of course with that "better than you hoped for" performance hike, pretty please, whilst the capacity is not yet consumed by growth, size down tasks for some of the sciences such as FAAH and HPF2 that now sit in the 10 hour mean bracket. Their UL/DL bandwidth is small, i.e. would not cost WCG an arm and a leg to do. Whilst I write this, would not be surprised if you had that already in the planner. This is going to become my refrain, but I want to wait until after the server updates for the new BOINC code. There are new tables and additional transactions as part of the new server code and I want to make sure we don't run into any issues. Once we do that we will reduce the workunit sizes. |

"Refrain" is an interesting English phrase as it's in inattentive reading meaning something different ;>)... OK, but you will surely know from the data that already you/WCG have set a new "normal" production, "normal" statistics ran result validation record on Monday of 896,683 , with probably one of the shortest lock out times from stats pages in a long time. That's 10.3 result per second: http://bit.ly/WCGRTF

Edit: seems to have been a hiccup.. things are reporting normally now /nevermind me ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 18, 2012 10:34:26 PM] |
