Seeing the end of February approach, I have gone back and forth on whether or not to start a new team thread at this point. By my guess, we'd reach the customary 500 post count around the 10th or so. That means we'd be a good bit over that if we try to make three months in the same thread. It wouldn't be too bad if we started a new thread in the middle of the month but it's the middle of the month. I clearly seem to have a thing for splitting off with a new team thread at the end of a month. Of course, the problem I would REALLY like to have to be dealing with is getting to a point where we need to start a new thread before we've gone a full month at all. So, since I'm more comfortable starting a new thread now versus trying to go for three months in the same thread, I'm starting a new one. Stay tuned......

I assume (a bad habit, I know
) by the description of your treatment, that you suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Do you know of anyone who treats Central Sleep Apnea? Everyone I have seen has tried to treat my Apnea as if it were Obstructive, so thus the breathing machines starting with a CPAP machine which did nothing but make the situation worse. Then they tried a VPAP machine with various different pressures for intake and output of breath. While that helped very slightly, it made no dent into the problem since with Central Sleep Apnea (which is really a misnomer since Central Apnea has nothing to do with sleep except that when you are sleeping you don't know that you are not breathing) your brain "forgets" to tell your lungs to operate. It is strange when you are awake and you realize you haven't taken a breath in 1 or 2 minutes and you have consciously tell yourself to take a breath. So all a VPAP machine does is force you to breath while you are asleep. My doctor had me try one of the newer family of breathing machines that are variable pressure machines. They not only determine that you haven't taken a breath in several seconds but also how much pressure is needed to force you to breath. I used one for a week to see if it had any effect upon my Apnea and we found that at various times while I am asleep it had to boost pressures to as much as 18 PSI in order to get my breathing to come back. I and probably nobody else can tolerate 18 PSI of pressure going into their mouth and nose because at least for me, anything over 15 PSI causes the air to come out of my eyes. Boy is that uncomfortable, to say the least. But if you are sleeping you don't feel the seepage of air around your eyes when it jacks up to 18 PSI. I developed Sleep Apnea because of a treatment my Neurologist tried to control my seizures called a Vagas Nerve Stimulator. This device delivers an electric charge through your Vagas Nerve every 5 minutes, 24/7. Apparently in a sizable portion of the population (5% as far as I can determine) this constant zapping of your brain damages the circuitry that controls breathing and I unfortunately fall into that 5% population. What is more unfortunate is that most Neurologists don't know about this side effect of using a VNS. In reality, the Sleep Apnea has been far more devastating than the Epilepsy in my case. Had I known of the side effects of the VNS I would have never consented to have it installed. So when talking about Sleep Apnea is important to differentiate between obstructive and central since with central, your breathing stops whether you are asleep or awake. Just while I have been typing this response my breathing has stopped 3 or 4 times. and is so debilitating in that you are tired all of the time. When you wake up you feel like you never went to sleep and this leads to making mistakes that someone who is alert would never make. I call it being dead but they forgot to toss the dirt over me . ![]() |
