Well,
----------------------------------------The flooding in Calgary, and the papertrail, but last friday the new meter is in place. I've checked a couple times, and DEF making more power than using, even though i've been in the 25-28 range of power for 3 days. Today is total rainfest, and it's early so sun isn't above the level of the panels, but making 500 watts anyways. It's not saving me a lot of money (but I'll take it) It's the COOL factor, it appeals to the green and geek (and greedy) in me Can't drop and drag, copy paste, get a picture in here to save my life ![]() |

So,
----------------------------------------the meter is working GREAT. Since the 17th of July, I have bought 86 KW from my power company, and sold over 200KW back to them. Next update is how much I've saved on my bill. ![]() |

Shouldn't you send them a bill?

How RIGHT you should be,
----------------------------------------but this is a partial month. looked again at what i have bought and sent, it was 100 KW bought from the grid, 296 KW sold back! dividing how much power i've bought, by how many days, means i'm only buying 7KW a day, so I'm using about 14 to 16 KW of my own power, plus selling massive amounts. This however, is summer. Besides shoveling snow, I have a new reason to hate winter. ![]() |

And a new reason to hate utility companies...
----------------------------------------They have decided not to pay us 15 cents a KW, but only whatever we are paying (I'm at 8.5 cents). Still glad I did it, but the payback time goes from 28 years to very old. However, the house was just re appraised to include the solar and landscaping, and it was actually 10,000 MORE than what we put in and original purchase price. So REALLY the payback time is already OVER. (til the next housing bubble bursts) Anyway makes me feel better. Also tomorrow almost positively, will be over 1 MEGAWATT of power generated! Should we move again, my next house will be off the grid, or an assisted living facility. My vote is for the former ![]() ![]() |

Remember the days are getting shorter, especially at your latitude which I am guessing is between 55 and 60 degrees north. And I don't know about your area, but November is notoriously cloudy. Hopefully you can at least break even in November, but keep us posted.
----------------------------------------Cheers

I'm hoping that september will be a credit and october break even,
----------------------------------------then november living off the credit and we will see with Dec... Not sure about anything its' too new. I have on the meter though almost 4 times the amount sent to the grid than I've used. ![]() |

Well,
----------------------------------------AUG, SEP, and OCT were free! I have 11 bucks left as a credit. My best day was 44 KW, my worst week (this last 7 days) 10 KW. Winter is here up at the 54 or 57 parallel (I forget which) There will be no breaking even as I have a 2 story house next to me. Total production to this point, 2.7 megawatts Rumor has it they may start a feed in tarrif program here, they are paying 40 cents a KW in Ontario, 8.6 cents a KW here. If I get 40, I'll never pay electric bill again! ![]() |

Thanks to climate change freak chance or the polar vortex skipping alberta and heading straight to the US (WELCOME TO MY WORLD AMERICA). We have had many days of above freezing temperatures. Then it freezes again and then thaws, but no snow for at least 2 weeks. Since it rained and cleaned off my solar panels, even though they have been mostly in shade from the neighbor's house, started making 5 to 6 KW a day. Remember our days are only like 8.5 hours long so I'm quite impressed. Plus in the last couple days, the sun is now high enuf to illuminate the top row of panels. Today I got 10KW. 2 or 3 more weeks the sun should shine fully on all the panels, and if it doesn't snow should make quite a bit. However I have now decided I will risk using a roof rake if it does snow, since i have proof that it can make a dent in my electrical usage even in winter! My 3 computers are using about 9KW a day, so to break even on that is quite satisfying.
----------------------------------------I have plans next to see if I can get some kind of energy storage device, whether that be batteries or what. One high quality one, costs (gasp) 1300 a KW.... Uhm I use about 22 KW a day, that's not going to work. Smaller cheaper backup system, about 5KW, is what I'm searching for, then I can turn off all unnecessary appliances, keep only heat, fridge and freezer connected to that backup system. I saw the leaf (I think) had a system where you plugged it into the house and it would charge and if there was power failure it would run off the leaf. This needs to come to widespread use. Here's my January report: Generated for John Murdoch on 01/26/2014 Print Email: Monthly Energy Production Report Murdoch Home AB Week Peak Power Energy Produced 01/01/2014 - 01/07/2014 185 W 2.02 kWh 01/08/2014 - 01/14/2014 166 W 2.43 kWh 01/15/2014 - 01/21/2014 1.94 kW 42.9 kWh 01/22/2014 - 01/28/2014 2.53 kW 40.1 kWh 01/29/2014 - 01/31/2014 0 W 0 Wh January 2014 Total: 87.4 kWh Previous Month Total: 2.68 kWh Year to Date: 87.4 kWh Your Carbon Offset for this month: 133 lbs You have offset the equivalent of: 2 Trees Environmental Benefits P.S.
