i'm posting just so i can keep my streak of posting at least once in every chapter complete. I think i missed one a couple of chapters ago, but i'm not sure (and i'm sure not interested enough to go back through thousands of posts to find out for sure). also, i had to scroll down to find our thread... that just isn't acceptable, even to a lurker like me ![]() Careful parmesian! I may just start new threads more often then just to keep you posting! ![]() Of course you do not have to fo go through thousands of posts parmesian since tou only have 194 posts! All you need to do is go to My Forum Profile and select Find all my posts. I sometimes have to do this if I can't remember where I put a post (must be getting old). Also, this post should at least move the thread to the top... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 4, 2011 7:43:27 PM] |

We also missed a new points record today by less than 2000 points so I think we'll break that at least once this month.

Hey folks, I thought I'd put this out here for your thoughts and feedback. I have typically been shooting to reach sapphire on each of the WCG projects, at least since they came out with the second set of badges. Currently, I have three projects that I've made emerald on and am working towards sapphire - Water, CEP2 and DDDT2. I'll make silver on DSFL just as soon as the next WU gets out of jail. I only have two crunchers - the quad desktop and a C2D laptop. The quad is Vista and C2D is XP. Both have 2GB of memory. Prior to DSFL starting, I've been running Water and CEP2 on the quad iin a bit of a strange fashion. By using separate profiles that specify either Water or CEP2 and manipulating the queue size, I request Water WUs until I get six and then switch to CEP2 until I get two. I repeat that until I have the queue loaded with 3-5 days of work. Given the time it takes to complete Water and CEP2 WUs on the quad, this approach keeps it from crunching on more than two CEP2 at a time and there are enough Water WUs to keep the other cores busy while the two CEP2's crunch. That maximizes how much CEP2 I can run on the quad. A third CEP2 at the same time tends to cause problems, in all likelihood from the low 2GB of memory. Adding another 2GB would probably let me run three at a time if not four. Once I have enough Water and CEP2 in the quad's queue, I switch it to a thrid profile for DDDT2 only and bump the queue size up more so that if some DDDT2 get sent out, I'll get some. Currently, I need 38 more days of Water to make sapphire, 59 more for DDDT2 and 251 for CEP2. My present plan is to replace Water with DSFL in this scheme once I hit sapphire on it. The C2D crunches CEP2 only since it can only do two WUs at a time anyway, which helps build my CEP2 numbers. One though is to add another 2GB of memory to the quad so that it could run four CEP2 at a time. In that case, I'd go with Water exclusively on it until I hit sapphire and then switch that to CEP2. I'd still load 3-5 days of work on it and then switch to the DDDT2 profile while those crunch so I can get any DDDT2 that go out. I don't see adding memory to the C2D helping any and, while I'm being rather frugal for now, memory is pretty cheap anyway. If I ever get to sapphire on all the active projects, the idea is to go back to crunching all of them. It would seem like a lot of work doing things this way but it lets me give every project the same focus in the end and I'm online every day anyway.
---------------------------------------- Also, it seems that practically any CEP2 you finish before it's halfway to the deadline is all but guaranteed to go to jail. With my queue size, what does go into PV is a lot less and for less time. If adding memory to the quad would let me run four CEP2s, it might simplify things as 38 days of Water would be 10-14 days of work on the quad, then go exclusive with CEP2. A couple of good DDDT2 rains would probably wrap it up as well. Like I said, it's only two machines but I try to squeeze what I can out of them. |

Hey folks, I thought I'd put this out here for your thoughts and feedback. I have typically been shooting to reach sapphire on each of the WCG projects, ...[snip][snip]... Like I said, it's only two machines but I try to squeeze what I can out of them. Oh my gosh That would make me crazy(r). I would skip lunch a few days to add that other two GB of memory just to simplify my life. My queue management is dead simple compared to that. Right now, all machines are running HCC (and beta and all the periodic projects when available (never)) with a .5 day queue Good Morning MOT Congratulations NiceMedTexMD Everyone... Unless you have other plans...Have a GREAT DAY ![]() |
