I will be interested in following what is happening with solar power in states other than California. I think I will browse the WEB to see if anything enlightening shows up. I will also send a note to the Sungevity guys to ask in what other states they provide support.

.... For you guys in Texas, have a look at http://solarpowerrocks.com/texas/ and see if that helps. Doesn't look like there's the lease set-up Sungevity does in CA but there appear to be incentives (state and federal) that can cut the cost of buying a system by over half........... Looking around at all that stuff just reeks of flimflam. I hope that Sungevity will send me a direction that looks promising.Well, like I said, I just did a little searching on Google and this site came up at the top of the list. Yea, there are ways to game that sort of thing. From appearance, it would seem to be a website three 20-somethings put together to provide better organized info about solar. Would I make a decision based on just this one site? Of course not. My impressions so far with respect to solar is that there's no one answer for everyone because so much depends on just where you are. There's a tax credit at the federal level, some states have varying incentives and some utilities do as well. What's available for business seems to be better that for residential solar. It seems in some cases, the solar equipment is exempt from property taxes too. The biggest factor of course is the site. Where can you put the panels, how much sun will they get, how efficiently will they convert that to electricity and does your local electric company/co-op allow you to send your excess back into the grid (not always)? What appears to be the case with Sungevity is that they buy the equipment, get the tax credits/rebates/etc. and lease the equipment to you. From a cash flow view, I suspect they use the lease you sign to get the financing they need to buy the equipment. That also fits with a higher down payment lowering your lease costs since they don't have to finance as much of the cost that way. I would think it is quite possible for folks in CA to buy their own solar equipment though leasing from Sungevity (and any competition they have) is probably cheaper, at least up front. I suspect what they do is most likely unique to CA because of the specific tax credits/rebates/etc. available in CA. That or they're pretty new and just don't have a presence in other states yet. Basically, it seems any of us could "go solar" if we're willing to buy the equipment. The numbers to justify such a decision are going to vary greatly because of the variation in incentives from state to state and city to city. When you buy a HVAC system for your house, you have to look at what you can afford, how efficient a system you can get for that, what the fuel cost will be, any rebates being offered by the manufacturer, any state or federal tax credits that might be available and more. Solar's no different. |

Got the memory today that I had ordered for both of my machines. Both now have 4GB of memory. The quad is crunching four CEP2 tasks concurrently at the moment and I am not seeing any problems.....yet. The quad is currently using 55-60 percent of that memory running the four WUs. I'll have to check it in the morning and see how thing went overnight. My crunching may have just gotten much simpler!

Texas should be in the lead when discussing solar power. Lobbied enough to know a bit of money spread around in our state capital would be all needed to create a bill with tax breaks and shasam a new industry booms in solar power. Hey look at California!!!
