Actually you can't read my comments on the thread in question because the post has vanished.
----------------------------------------So here it is edited to stay well within forum guidelines. (snip) When the day comes that a member cannot ask a question on this forum then we all might as well pack up our tents and leave the forum because it is no longer a place to seek or share information. A question is merely an instance of opening a topic for discussion. A forum is a public place for meeting and discussion. There is no other place to go to get our questions answered. My team member's question was reasonable and a reasonable person would try to give an informed answer. Disagreement with an answer or asking further questions for clarification is NOT CRITICISM. And if it was, criticism is not always bad. Discouraging a member from learning about WCG is shameful.

I managed to read the post in question, also sekerobs explanation of how it breached wcg forum guidelines, before it was deleted.
----------------------------------------My reply was given in good faith, I thought it was succinct and light hearted. looking back at it, it may have come across as flippant and curt. I certainly dont think you are a turnip or born yesterday. Yes, it is unacceptable that people who ask questions are abused, and the abuser should be challenged immediately... or ignored as a fool. (and lets face it, anyone who gets angry about a Geography thread is a first class moron) I choose the latter however, as challenging idiots on the internet, would be like trying to paint a river. sunfolk,
----------------------------------------There is a lot of wisdom in your words. I know from years of using Usenet newsgroups that you can't beat them. You can't reason with unreasonable people. When I was in the military, in a school, fresh out of boot camp, an instructor said there was no such thing as a dumb question. The first question I asked, he said out loud in front of the class "that's the dumbest question I ever heard". For him it was funny. After that I never asked another question for the duration of my time in the service, I found the answer myself. Learned a lot doing that. I graduated second in my class. What I am going to do is stop asking questions and solve my own problems. There is plenty of work to keep me busy..

I don't think you should stop asking questions...sometimes it's the quickest way to get an answer. There are plenty of people watching these forums who are happy to help.
I learned a lesson from some so-called friends in college that has stuck with me my entire life since. When someone does something hurtful, it is usually not on purpose, and my first reaction is to always think it wasn't purposeful. BUT when someone does something purposely hurtful, they are looking for a response from you, and get some kind of "pleasure" from whatever response you give. If you make no response, or remain courteous, then *you win* , because they did not get the response they wanted. I usually just think "what a jerk", and let it roll off. |

A quick note from the techno-geek
When looking through some of the online forums, I saw that some folks had some success overclocking my processor model up to 5GHz. So.... I tried going up to 4.8GHz and my processor failed miserably. It wouldn't even boot. I had to do a CMOS reset to get my computer back to normal. I have been successful running at 4.5GHz, so I guess that's the max for mine. Still not bad. |

gretchch,
----------------------------------------1. I think you are absolutely correct in that a non response is the best answer. Another solution is to avoid the confrontation, and for me it is the best solution. Bullying is something I don't tolerate so if I get into a situation where it happens it is near impossible not to say something. I don't watch the TV show Glee because of the bullying. 2. When you overclocked what were the voltages you used? Did you adjust the core voltage? How about the memory? My i7 is running at 4.3 because the motherboard came with a feature that overclocked from 3.5 by clicking once. To go beyond that I would have to have a plan or procedure to follow.

My Gigabyte motherboard has MB Intelligent Tweaker. You give it a multiplier (i.e. 48x says run at 4.8GHz) and it "supposedly" knows how to tweak all the other settings. I really don't want to try to figure this stuff out on my own , so I will leave it at 4.5 GHz.
