Did you notice how small the font is on this forum? I did. I have a monitor not a microscope. Hold down the Ctrl key and spin your mouse wheel. (Windoze 7)

The challenge results. We dropped back to #7 in HFCC and we are holding at #7 in HCC. Both of those results are very good for a small team.
----------------------------------------It looks like team PL is not crunching HCC and is 100% HFCC. We are not going to improve our HFCC rank unless we can get more results, but I do not plan on making any project changes until the challenge is completed on 10/31 because of my interest in the HCC GPU Beta. I will be offline next week. How do i get BOINC to halt downloading new tasks so they won't timeout since they won't be processed?

grumpy,
----------------------------------------Set your BOINC Manager>Computing Preferences>network usage>set Additional work buffer days to 0.00. Go to My Grid>My Projects and uncheck all boxes. BOINC Manager>Tasks>highlight and Abort any tasks remaining. BOINC Manager>Projects>click on the project>Update (forces a user requested update) Give it a few seconds to complete, the Tasks should clear. BOINC Manager>Activity>Click on Network activity suspended. If you have any tasks that appear after that just ignore them as they will be sent to other users if the deadline is missed (and you won't be penalized). When you go back online Abort any tasks that will/have miss(ed) the due date. If you have any problems let me know.

I have an AMD quad core with 2 GPU cores, ATI 4600 and 3200. The display is using the 4600, which shows 0% usage most of the time.
----------------------------------------The 3200 shows 100% usage all of the time but it is not connected to anything. BOINC shows the 3200 GPU not used. Updated to the latest drivers, and from Catalyst Control Center to AMD Vision Engine Control Center; no help. To drop the usage to 0% the 3200 was disabled and there does not seem to be any ill effects doing that. Can't find anything on Google or AMD to explain it. On a scale of 1-10 it's a 1 but it will keep me awake at night wondering what the problem is. Don't you hate that when that happens?

When you go back online Abort any tasks that will/have miss(ed) the due date. If you have any problems let me know. This seems a bit involved. Why not just tell BOINC to not get any more work at the appropriate time? If you run with a one day work buffer, just over one day before you go offline, go into BOINC Manager, Projects tab, select the WCG project and click on the "No new tasks" button. That machine will no longer request new tasks and spend the day completing the work it has. When you return, simply click on the same button that now says "Allow new tasks" and hit the update button to get tasks to start crunching. |
