The result of my PSA test is in, a good reading is <4.00.
----------------------------------------Following a kidney infection on 9/26/11 my PSA tested 8.22 My urologist suspected the high reading was due to the infection and it appears he was correct. On 10/11/11 my PSA tested 4.7 which is trending downwards. Everyone should know cancer symptoms and follow-up on them.

What are you using to monitor CPU temperature(s)?
----------------------------------------I like Open Hardware Monitor because it shows CPU & GPU temperature. http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ Is there something out there that is better?

The result of my PSA test is in, a good reading is <4.00. Very good news, rcc On 10/11/11 my PSA tested 4.7 which is trending downwards.  Everyone should know cancer symptoms and follow-up on them. So true. Early detection - acting on the suspicion you don't want to face - improves survival chances immensely. |

RCC, thats great news from the Dr. One of the few instances when we like to see things trending down!
----------------------------------------I only have one box with useable GPU, dont remember seeing GFLOPS mentioned in messages, will investigate. I use Linux these days so no fancy pants Temp monitors for me, just the command line interface  Ho Hum....   |

sunfolk, do you see better results using Linux vs Windows?
----------------------------------------I see that there are quad core computers for around US$249 or less but some have Vista as an OS. I thought that maybe Linux would be better at crunching.

sunfolk, do you see better results using Linux vs Windows? Its been years since I crunched for points, I do it for humanity now.So I`m not the best person to ask the linux/windoze question. But from the few posts I have seen in recent weeks that touch on the subject the serious crunchers seem to favour 64bit linux,8 core hyperthreaded. I think at least one of the advantages with linux, is less overhead to run the desktop. ie 99.999 cpu can be used to crunch, windows will use some cpu (10-20% I dunno?) to make itself look pretty  Sekerob would be the man to ask, in this thread |

There is a new BOINC Manager download available. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php
----------------------------------------The 64 bit version mentions the ability to use GPU if you have it. They removed the messages tab and added an event log under Advanced.

We are now #5 in HFCC pulling ahead of China Hamburg Komplott.

I'm using 32-bit Linux (Ubuntu) because it's much easier to get up to date applications in 32-bit than 64-bit. There is a temperature monitoring application for Debian distributions : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SensorInstallHowto
----------------------------------------What it monitors depends on the type of processor(s) you have. On my AMD quad-core it just gives me one temperature. On my new Intel I7 quad-core I get a temperature for every core, plus a GPU temperature. It's good to hear about WCG starting a beta for GPU usage -- I'll go ahead and enable the GPU on my Intel Quad-core box. I'm using 32-bit Linux (Ubuntu) <snip> Yeah me too, dont really have any need for 64bit. But Gpu crunching on WCG would make me switch. |
