I'm running HPF until i get the Gold badge, then i'll switch to (gasp!) CEP2 and try to get another Gold.

I can't help but wonder why so much effort was put into HCC GPU, when as soon as it became live, ran out of work.

Re: "The survivors"

Haven't bought my graphics card yet. I'd like to get my sapphire badge in all of the current projects before switching to something else. I'm sure that HCC will be done by then, so I guess I'll wait for any follow-on GPU project.

Re: "The survivors"

The reason why HCC1 ran out of work so quickly is due solely to GPU.
HCC1 started Nov 6th 2007.
Without GPU there was almost 800 days of work remaining.

My experience is that my one GPU can do the work of my 25 CPUs.
Running multiple GPU threads would make it even more powerful.
There is no gain in run time as it requires one CPU to support one GPU, however, the gain in points and work unit results is significant and in my case they doubled allowing me to pass dl1000v.

I hate to fix something that is not broke but the urge to try 2 threads on the GPU is tugging on me.
My fear is that it will screw up everything.
Been there, done that.
But I want to know if my card will run 2 or more GPU threads.
Some crunchers have run more GPU threads than CPUs.
Don't see an advantage in doing that, however, some crunchers are getting Teraflops performance numbers.

Re: "The survivors"

After reading many threads about running multiple GPU threads I have decided not to proceed at this time.

If I understand it correctly my GeForce GTX 480 card would give me a 30% gain in GPU processing with 2 threads max.
On the other side, if there are any errors in the app_info.xml file I could reduce my present processing by 100%.

Not sure it is worth the gamble with this card.
However, if I had a pair of 7970s and could run 24 GPU threads I might reconsider.
Adding 2 high end cards creates a problem with power supply capacity and my present i7 2700K CPU might not keep up with the 2 GPU cards.
Am I willing to have no response on my display?
I don't think so; therefore this is not somewhere I want to go.

After all this is a pastime and hobby not the Olympics so there is nothing to prove to anyone.
