Beta: Old Records Blasted

Now that all sciences are being pushed through the "New Download Servers", we've obliterated any previous ''beta'' test on multiple fronts, the biggest being that yesterday 4,090 CPU days worth was validated... more than 11 CPU years. Soon there's nothing special left about a Beta badge :P

Crunching on [and piles in the queue of them ''precious'' on the way to Ruby, a 2015 dream]

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

unfortunately, I have to agree with Sekerob. While I loved the fact that we just got a lot of betas, being able to reach anything high on beta was supposed to be super hard. But I probably got enough betas runtime from this last batch for get ruby by itself.

Of course, the simple solution is to create some new badges tongue

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

The downpour of betas is not going to last forever. It took almost two years for me to get 14 days for bronze. Might be several more years to get silver. So I think betas are still hard to get and special.

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

What record(?)... based on morning stats we're heading today for ~9,500 CPU days (27 Years). This morning 23k Results validated for 14.3 years. Absent extensive failure reports it appears like we're heading in the right direction.

NB: No, don't report failures here, report them there :D

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

It was a nice Beta run except for CEP2. DL speed of 17-22 kpbs on a 68 meg file just will not work for me. I aborted all the CEP2's; does anyone know what the UL speed was? Otherwise I was error free. Still ~40 days to a greenie though. laughing

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

Had around 24days worth validate since this morning, and 44days from this run altogether. Definitely my personal record.
With some still IP this will be a Silver run for me.

Well, back to the grind.

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

I think there's an over-estimation of just exactly how many beta units the (average) individual cruncher is picking up here. Sure if you read the forum announcement there's the opportunity to "stock up" on them via workload cache. But I think that stocking up is the exception, rather than the rule.

Buut.... since statistical calculations make my head spin.... can anyone tell us the averrage cruncher's daily output?

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

AnnieKenes, everything is relative. Average cruncher is also relative. If you want to know how much 50% of the cruncher contribute per day, it is in the terms of hrs of CPU time. They are your office crunchers.
However people who read the forum and your average badge hunter, they are more dedicated and crunch vitrually 24-7. They contribute a lot more, but probably only on the scale of less then 10 CPU days per real day.

Re: Beta: Old Records Blasted

So in order to make any sort of jump (assuming a user isn't on the cusp of a new beta badge already) they'd probably have to take some sort of action to either...

a) boost their output

or

b) increase their WU cache

My assertion is that most people (including your average badge hunter) won't do these things. For instance, in my case, when I got home and noticed I was getting some beta units, I adjusted my CEP2 output down to increase the ratio of beta units in the cache (I wasn't getting CEP2 beta units), but took no other action. My last beta units are crunching right now and I'll probably be out of them by late today or tomorrow (depends on how much time I spend gaming today, the longest one has over 5hrs to go.)

Unless there's more beta units waiting in the wings, (doesn't look like it) I probably won't hit bronze.
