Re: New Set of Beta WU's - General System Test, All Sciences

lol...well I got 4 total across 4 machines. One of which will most likely fail since it is a laptop that normally fails on CEP2. Too bad there is no exclusion options to individual BETA projects.

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - General System Test, All Sciences

I got 2, both on the same machine. It looks from the message list as if they downloaded ok, although the "qcaux"files took 11 minutes each. The betas are running now.

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - General System Test, All Sciences

I have to say, I expected the next beta run to last longer than 6 minutes... Guess I'll wait for the full-fledged restart. Thanks knreed.

It was not even long enough for the PVs to clear.

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - General System Test, All Sciences

I was fishing in the right pond, I think, but should I be happy?
Normally the number of BETA's is 1 per host/project or 1 per core/project.
Not this time: On two quads I got 16 BETA CEPs each.
Problem is: All tasks are repairs with a deadline of 19 hours and 12 minutes.

Kevin stopped the distribution, so I think it's useless to abort some of them, what would make my hosts unreliable.
Waiting on signs of distribution restart to abort the expectable "Too late" ones. Until then I'll let them run.

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - General System Test, All Sciences

We have restarted the cep2 beta. It looks better, but not great so far.

Received 2 so far on 6 machines. Downloads are still pretty slow. 60kbps on a 6 meg connection.

I was looking at my message logs and some of them said I didn't have enough download speed for CEP2 betas. What's up with that?

Same as before... if a profile specifies the default of one-per-machine, the min.download speed of the client is checked. Choose 2 or more, and you'll override this limit.

Let them run- maybe they don't need the full 12 hours and you can handle them within time.
I got six on my quad- one was finished after 4.5 hours- the other one at 7 hours. smile

Re: New Set of Beta WU's - General System Test, All Sciences

Hear Hear: Aborts do NOT affect reliability, only results with an 'Error' outcome. What aborts do, of any kind, is they go against the daily core quota of 80, core that is! Who's got the machine to do 80 per core per day even of the fastest WCG tasks?

As per Mathilde2006, 19 hours deadline, easy peasy, they need on average 7.5-8 hours on me stock 2.4 Ghz quad. You will see them run in high priority, so regular work will remain pre-empted until they've finished.

So it would be better, to run tasks as long as they can finish in time (~8)- cancel all other and wait for fresh meat. biggrin

I have 2 selected. The question is why would I get 1 each on 2 machines and the download speed message on the other 4?
