Re: UK

Sorry for quietude, I was waiting for my second last emerald badge before posting ;-)

I say second last since I've backed off a bit on Clean Energy once I noticed the upload sizes and worked out that they'd use more than double my bandwidth allowance for the month if I allowed that project to run exclusively on all cores :-\ So, it'll be a while 'til that one turns green unfortunately.

2.3 years for the team in six weeks now though biggrin

Hello All and well done to crooks, Mike, Kashi and TMC for your recent achievements!

From @Mike D Green:

CEP2 seems to be hungry for all resources... no wonder it's restricted as standard. I run it unrestricted and consequently get more than any other project that I run alongside it... it was the first one of my active bronzes to make it to silver and will most likely be the first to gold too.

The other week I tried to back up some files on my media PC from one USB3 connected HDD to another, with all 4 cores crunching CEP2 at the time.

One word: Messy!

I now suspend the project before doing any file transfers.

It certainly does. As an experiment, I've let my 6 core / 12 thread machine run solely CEP2 for a while and, even at 3.5GHz, with 32GB of RAM and running exclusively on SSDs, there is a perceptible degree of interference with even simple things like web browsing, even when it's not hogging my paltry bandwidth uploading the 32MB output files!

I'm going to get it up to emerald (150 days to go) then pull it back to one WU per machine I think :-\

Well done to the team as a whole for our continued, upward march.

Re: UK

@ Mike D Green: I found that running CEP2 100% on the I7-870 lost me an average of 1 hour per work unit (actual Run Time vs CPU Time), effectively costing me 1 day per day, and when they uploaded, it ground the internet to a halt sad

Being a much newer and faster system though, your 12 core probably performs a lot better than mine did... I was seriously happy to get that blue badge though smile

Re: UK

Greetings fellow UK munchers!
Although not had the time to visit the forum, so just catching up on the posts, have still been munching away on a few units for the cause.

@Jonnieb - as has been said before, superb stats once again. Will raise a glass of fine ale to you this evening.

On the CEP front, having one unit at a time doesn't seem to affect the computer to any noticeable degree. Admittedly I haven't tried crunching more than one unit at a time though. It's a pain that a couple of the sections of a CEP unit take soooooo long to crunch, means being a bit more careful with these units so I don't switch off the machine while in the middle of one of these huge sections. Can take 5 hours or more to do. Slightly odd too that some of these units have about 80% runtime on that one section. But it's something the techs can't get around at the moment.

What's your drink of choice, then? smile

Having been on the brewery tours for Theakstons and Black Sheep ales, I'm partial to a nice pint of Theakstons Lightfoot or Golden Sheep Ale...

Re: UK

Post #1000 in this thread, that calls for a celebration! biggrin

And, in WCG-related news (just so this post has a reason to be posted other than just to get the 1000th post), I'm approaching 20 years run-time overall! biggrin
