Re: UK #1 Challenge

It's going to take me a very long time to make ground on Soong.

You get a better picture if, instead of the 7day average, you extrapolate just yesterday's output whch is virtually clear of HCC. This produces an estimate of days to close of 993 days ~ early 2016. wink

It's still a very long time! With a few weekends on the workstations, I would hope to better this by some margin, assuming of course another GPU project doesn't come along in the meantime!

Re: Which project to crunch next

@ fosking

Last Result Returned (UTC) 6/5/13 00:19:24 [44+ hour(s) ago]

Is there a problem? shock

Hiya, no problem here except before we came away on holiday, my wife went around and turned my pc's off without me knowing. So unfortunately I'm not back until Monday. On the plus side, my wife has just got her i7 back before we came away so that will help boost my RT back up.

Hope everyone is well and greetings from Rhodes!

Conveniently the p/v gaoler has been releasing a couple of results each day to maintain your perfect crunching record @ 100% for the last 91 days. smile

And won't it be nice to come home to an empty P/V gaol biggrin biggrin

Re: Morning Update

@ douglasalt1 - that's it, you're part of the furniture now!

And Statto is 7 biggrin Time to big up Statto in a biggidy biggidy bong stylee wink biggidy biggidy bongs, not sure why that popped in to my head, I blame Mark and Lard from years back

These CEP2 units are getting to a pain, the last couple I've had have taken 12 hours just to do "job 2" even with the computer doing very little else other than a bit of normal web viewing.

CEP

These CEP2 units are getting to a pain,

Not totally relevant to your specific gripe but SekeRob reports (re CEP2):
Current development is all going into a new Q-Chem engine being made ready for the grid. My guess is this one will take the IO issues on many have and why default is 1 per device.

Another snippet information from CEP2 posted 2 years ago:
A ‘CEP3’ will most likely be an evolution rather than a new ballgame. We will apply other methods which are already in the current code. The bottomline is: GPUs are great and we hope to be able to use them sooner rather than later. My guess is that implementing and then porting it to the grid may well take a year of work.

but then 3 months later:
,,.this is a science application which at present only runs on CPUs, not GPUs. Most of the software actually has to be rewritten such that it also works for GPUs (which is a major undertaking) and we did not have the manpower to attack it.

So no GPU forthcoming from CEP in the forseeable future. sad

Re: CEP

It just seems to be the last couple of units, the one before that were fine and the whole WU was being completed in under 12 hours.

As has been mentioned before by many people, it's just a bit of a shame that job2 can take soooooooooooo long to complete which is surely reducing the numbers of people crunching the project, especially for computers that are only on a few hours per day. It's why the computer at work doesn't crunch any CEP2 as I would lose a lot of runtime and, as in the recent units, would likely never complete job2.

Otherwise, still trundling along. Right, off for Sunday roast, mmmmmmmmm.
