Afternoon Team
---------------------------------------- Today & tomorrow will probably be some of the last high returns for me for a while, I am within just a few days (as in run-time), of getting 5 years for DSFL & 12 years for HCC and so I am now running down the queue's on my 2 Quaddies and one of my I7's in preparation to shut them down They'll be booted up, only to achieve 2 years on any new projects that are released (and perhaps to grab a few Beta's, if I'm lucky enough to be sat here if/when they arise?). That'll leave me with just 2x I7's running and 12 GPU's (as and when we get more GPU projects), but still, I'm still with the team and will still be crunching and every little helps ![]() Just to add: I'm not overly disappointed with shutting systems down, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would achieve so much for the Grid, I started out with a Single Core AMD Athlon and now I'll soon have 12 years on 1 project alone! phew, thats good going if I do say so myself. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by themoonscrescent at Apr 22, 2013 2:44:04 PM] |

Well, as part of a hardware shuffle, I've just retired two very old slow 2U Xeon servers (spare01 & spare02). They are being replaced with some faster 1U Dells, which will be joining my team's development/testing VM platform (that I already have five VMs on), but not sure whether adding another one/two more VMs to those existing five will be frowned upon.

Is nothing sacred
---------------------------------------- The PrimeGrid Cheating Scandal See here then here. knreed and WCG rise to the challenge! knreed at Apr 23, 2013 3:33:10 AM Those individuals did join WCG and we have checked their results and all of their results are either pending validation, inconclusive or invalid. They have no valid results. Our validators have kept the data safe. Given this issue and the discussion in this thread: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,34960 we have tightened up how we handle the max_jobs_per_day and credit for invalid results. See my post here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=419186 for details. These will make it more difficult and less rewarding for these type of contributors in the future. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Apr 23, 2013 6:50:46 AM] |

Seems utterly crazy to me. They gained nothing for the cheating, it's not as though all those credits are actually worth anything, if it was hard cash I could understand.

Morning all, and happy St George's Day to those in my corner of the UK.
----------------------------------------WTF? This sort of thing really makes me mad! Glad they got caught and all their credits rescinded - it seems to be a suitable punishment given their clear motivation here. Without any offence meant to mathematicians, finding new Prime numbers is one thing, but it people start cheating and faking the results of research into cures for some of the diseases that WCG is trying to tackle, then that's just sick* (* for any young people on the forum, see definitions 3-5 of sick) |
