@ ChrisUK - noticed you have visited this thread, please feel free to post a quick introduction here. Interested to know what crunchers you have as you seem to be putting out some decent figures here.


Hi, I've not got anything special.
I've got an old HP nx7400 laptop which is 5 or 6 years old now. It's crunching 24/7. It's got a 2ghz dual core centrino core duo.
My daily use machine is a Sony Vaio laptop with an i5-2450M which is 2.5ghz quad core. This one is only crunching when it is truly idle. I've left it on a couple of nights. biggrin
At work I've got a laptop with a dual core something which has just started doing some crunching during working hours.

We've got a couple of guys at work that do CAD work. They have PC's with monster graphics cards. I could probably get them to help out. Do any of the tasks here utilize GPU's or is it all about the CPU? confused

i5-2450M which is 2.5ghz quad core.


As I understand it, it is dual core but masqurades as a quad core. Also it can crank up to 3.1ghz.

Help Conquer Cancer (HCC) is currently the only project available for GPU crunching. The actual graphics card is key to whether it is able to participate. This thread has a list of those cards currently excluded. In broad terms AMD/ATM are ok, NVIDIA less so. The card must be Open CL. CUDA won't work.

I've just been browsing some other threads on the forum. I see now the only task using GPU's is HCC. I'll investigate the machines at work tomorrow biggrin

Although HCC is the only GPU project here, I wonder if any of the other projects are considering using GPU in the future.

When GPU started to settle down a little, this question was asked and the response was that although there are other projects in the pipeline, non where GPU at this time (that was a fair few months ago though).
