Re: UK

Also noticed MissMelisande visiting the thread, again it would be nice to hear from you and all fellow team crunchers, a little introduction and curious to know what crunching machines are out there. Would also be nice to get a few more voices in the team thread.

Well, I am normally a just a lurker but for those that are curious, my main machine is:

Intel Core i7 920 @2.67GHz
12GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680

and when he's not around, I sometimes run my hubby's machine also which is:

Intel Core i5 2500K @3.30GHz
32GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series

The radar has detected some limited activity in the last 48hrs from both djerram and Wicksman. So whatever the reason for the limited crunching neither is totally lost to the team! biggrin

Re: UK

Afternoon all.

If ever you need crunching advice or just want to shoot the breeze you know where we are.

@ MissMelisande - I'll second that. A couple of decent crunchers there, although you may have to "borrow" your husbands machine a bit more whistling

A rumour has been heard in the office that we may be getting new machines. Unfortunately, I will only believe it when I see it, heard it too many times before but at least an i7 would be nice......... praying

Anyhow, time to put kettle on for a brew. coffee

Re: UK

Has anyone got any ideas on how well AMD's new Piledriver works on the grid, been thinking recently on upgrading my 2 Quaddies and the maths for a Mobo Upgrade for the I7 doesn't work out (in my case), but a x8 Piledriver is 1/2 the price, but for grid work, is it any good?

Re: UK

Good evening all,

Nice to hear from you MissMelisande.

Unfortunately, my idle only GPUs haven't been idle much this week, so performance is well down.

This is something I've been looking into, as I thought a FX8150 would give a decent amount of additional CPU RT for much less than a I7 would be. I know the FX cores have a higher power consumption but i haven't been able to find a comparison for the points per day of the two cores but i cant image they are that different.

In the Results rankings the UK team has moved ahead of Ubuntu Linux into #62 biggrin

BOINC Synergy #61 and our old bogey Crunching@EVGA #60 should follow in 3 and 9 days respectively. smile

It does appear that other teams are getting into improving GPU capabilities and there are a number of threats to monitor in the next few weeks/months:
