GeraldRube, The conductor, Herbert von Karajan, was an old man with a big mouth and not the slightest nick in his selfconfidence.Yesterday we talked old men with big mouths. Today I posted this link in our team thread: Radetzsky March by Johann Strauss Sr. Knew I had read this one years ago, and lo and behold, and I love Google, I found it: The near-mythical orchestra conductor Herbert von Karajan was reputed to have jumped into a taxi outside the opera house and shouted to the driver, “Hurry, hurry!” “Very good, sir,” said the driver. “Where to?” “It doesn’t matter,” said von Karajan impatiently. “They need me everywhere!” |

darth_vader you have arrived here from "A galaxy far, far away"
----------------------------------------No earthly address can be found in your index card. As I am myself, you are a character of fantasy. I suppose I am to think Star Wars. Not long ago, Danish Television ran all the movies. I dutifully sat down in order to fill the gap, I felt there was, as I never saw even one Star Wars movie. Well, I think it is an aquired taste as is Black Bread and Pickled Herring. We had a rerun of Twin Peaks as well. That I never saw in its day, either, but would correct it, and happened to like it so much that I began to think of Coop and the entire staff as my extended family. So, what are we gonna do, darth? I cannot imagine you wishing to relinquish on you living in "a galaxy far, far away", and mixing in Cleveland is kind of a breach of style. I'm content placing you in my mind in that far, far away galaxy. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 25, 2011 1:11:21 AM] |

Well, I think it is an aquired taste as is Black Bread and Pickled Herring. Pickled herring is delicious. Especially with crackers and beer. Cheers

Crackers? Never heard that.
Which kind of crackers, Sgt. Joe? Being firmly rooted in the black bread belt shouldn't make me inflexible, should it? |

Please excuse the tardiness of my reply, family obligations and the race for the Stanley Cup have been distracting me. I used NCR as my city as I thought you might check and you seem the type of person that might enjoy a minor riddle/challenge. The clue might have been a little Region specific though as when I tried The Google it came back as a company located more than 4.5 hours away in mississauga. Interestingly there was a reference to the area listed under "Searches related to NCR Canada" at the bottom of the page. Oh, and while where we live might be separated by many miles all Canadians have ties to the NCR, it's that type of place... ![]() |

Please excuse the tardiness of my reply, family obligations and the race for the Stanley Cup have been distracting me. You being back at any time is exceeding my expectations.I used NCR as my city as I thought you might check and you seem the type of person that might enjoy a minor riddle/challenge. he-he, you read me spookily well, better than I do you (see above).Oh, and while where we live might be separated by many miles all Canadians have ties to the NCR, it's that type of place... Big footprints, eh?I learned of NCR the hard way. It's not a story flattering for me at all, but here goes: Many, many, many years ago in the age of -I don't know the technical name of it at all - a type of "self-copying" paper - you could have a form in a set of say 5 copies without having to put ordinary carbon paper between the sheets - and made by NCR, my boss asked me what NCR stood for. Not wanting to appear ignorant I spinned my brain frantically and it fairly quickly, I found, stopped at: "No Carbon Required", which I proudly suggested to him. Well, he laughed for half an hour or so - I blushed for about the same amount of time. Finally, he was able through hiccups to inform me of the right meaning of NCR: National Cash Register. I'll never forget. So, LCB001, as nice as it is to see you having put NCR there, we cannot expect other curious minds being as weird as this one. Should we put a province/and or a city next to it do you think? - offering you the third spot next to our friend from Hong Kong and AnnieKenes Edit: Noticed you have put Quebec in as your province. You own spot #3. Congratulations! [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 25, 2011 1:00:42 PM] |
