LCB001 from Canada, and JGarcia from Portugal, are you reading this thread?
Or are you just resting like migrant birds? Or do you wait for me to talk? Well, I do talk, cannot help it. But I'm not sure why you don't. Why? JGarcia comes from Portugal as Falconet who was here earlier. From the land of great football players. One of the best matches I ever saw was some European tournament game, where FC Oporto beat the other team (which never made enough of an impression to be remembered), but the memorable thing was that each and every player played like an artist that evening. Never seen it repeated. In which part of Portugal do you live? LCB001, Canada is a big country. You crunch with "Hardware Canucks". Gotta love that word. Canucks. I would like to be able to talk with you about hockey - ice hockey - which I believe is your #1 sport, but I' m afraid I'm rather lost. Have never been able to spot the itty-bitty "puck" they play with. I admire the way they skate and push, though. Do you like hockey? Which province do you come from, LCB001? |

Hello deltavee,
----------------------------------------You are a role model for others to follow. krazykarlwithk could learn something from you. Nothing can we learn from you index card, karl. One good thing, though - and I think deltavee will agree - is that that you give the letter "k" a spin, because it is wildly underused in English. Wish you could put Kupertino, Kalifornia in your index card. Sorry, if the joke is too koarse. I don't mean it to be. I like your handle, Karl, don't be mistaken. On my way over, I passed AnnieKenes, remember? She had nothing put down on her index card, but I think this here thread is beginning to pay off. I think we shall be able to learn that AnnieKenes actually is from Iowa from her own pen. (I had a lucky shot there - or was it intuition). Sgt. Joe, you sit there and take care of this thread and me. In silence. Many visitors have done that. Is it so, that it is not considered polite to start a conversation with someone you don't know? And if so: How will you ever get to know the other one? Do you mind, if I strike up some small talk? St. Cloud, Minnesota. Far to the north, cold winters, very cold. Many Swedes settled there. Recently read Vilhelm Moberg's "The Immigrants" - don't know whether the title is correct. Tough life it was. St. Cloud and more books. One of my favorites is "The Cider House Rules" by John Irving. Chuck full of love in all its variants. St. Cloud is the small New England place, where Wilbur Larch has his orphanage. He states time and again: "Maybe it is so in other places, but here in St. Cloud ..." OK, there you go. And all of it because you took the trouble of putting in a city and a state. Thank you Sgt. Joe. I have looked at this thread a number of times and enjoyed reading it. Yes it is true many Swedes, Norwegians and Finns settled here in Minnesota. However to my surprise the biggest group from Europe were the Germans. The area around St. Cloud is still very heavily of German origin, but it is slowly changing. In Stearns County, where St. Cloud is the county seat, quite a number of people grew up speaking German as their first language rather than English. St. Cloud is named after the suburb of Paris, France - St. Cloud who was, I believe, a bishop there long ago. St. Cloud is known as the Granite City because of the large number of granite quarries in the area. In fact I live next to an abandoned quarry. Stearns county is the largest dairy county in the State of Minnesota with twice as much milk and butter produced as the next county in line. Cold winters yes and short hot summers. Thanks for starting the thread. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

That link is interesting, so I plan to take a closer look later today. I assume you became a friend of one pretty quickly. ![]() Which kind of business did you found in such a difficult-to-reach spot? Funny thing you mention fuel prices. Nothing really to giggle about, but you haven't seen fuel prices till you have visited my country - well, and a few others, I believe. Did a calculation yesterday for the fun of it, when I saw the price here had set a new high: 12.72 Danish Crowns per liter. It's a little complicated to figure out. Currency rate and metric/gallons. The result came to: US$9.40/gl. Hope the US prices will stay at a level where you can carry on with your plans. And do they reprimand you by e-mail? Yes i have been very fortunate,I started a painting and remodel business--and yes i have been reprimanded many times--mostly by friends here--i am a old man with a big mouth ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for starting the thread. Cheers Sgt. Joe, thank you very much for your kind words. You have taken time out to educate me on the origins of Minnesota's population. Hardy and hardworking folks, they were. I think the Danes kind of wandered a little further to the Dakotas. (Lloyd Bentsen's dad started out in a sod cabin there, remember?). I have never been to Minnesota - just passing on an Amtrak, and I'm afraid it was by night. Dairy, that's Denmark. Wisconsin is, I think to some degree impacted by Danish dairymen. Funny, how the immigrants tend to have sought out climates and sceneries similar to what they left. Have been reading your team thread some tonight. You are a bunch of very smart guys. I notice you have a Finn on board (I know a lot of Finns settled Michigan's Upper Peninsula - birch trees and ice cold weather). Ultima Thule is probably aware of Snackbar Finland in the DCZone where they talk his impossible (just joking, but you cann't learn it!) mother tongue. Once again, thank you for supporting my intensions. When you are about to give up, a tailwind like your words helps a lot. |

How is business these days for you with an economy to the sickly side? We need old men with big mouths. Keep it up, GeraldRube! ![]() |
