Good to hear you stayed somewhat dryer than Vermont
<I meant you are the neighbor to Vermont, kffitzgerald, I regard Rhode Island my second home, but am Danish> - and it's nice for me to know where you are in this big world |

ah I see, Lil Mermaid - it's good to have friends around the world - perhaps we will meet if either of us travels to the other country. how is the world economic crisis affecting you, your family and the Danish in general?

Yes, having friends all over the world is precious
- and the Internet and Facebook has speeded up that process enormously. My present teammate (Base Campers are a nomadic species) Guitar Man from England is on his last leg of what he called U.S. Sofa Tour (with its own Facebook group) visiting crunching friends in Washington, Minnesota, New York, Texas and Florida - sleeping on people's sofas (at least in spirit). That is getting trendy, PBS tells, so he's proud of being a trendsetter. Compared to the EUROzone countries we are doing fairly well. Our finances could be better, employment, too, but we are doing pretty well; no real hardships us being a welfare state What Makes Denmark so Happy? How about living conditions i New Hampshire, kffitzgerald? |

Hi little mermaid !
----------------------------------------Sorry if out of topic, but think that's ap“propriate space to do it... Just to left here a copy of the message (jn return of yours) that I left for you in our thread... thank you for your kind message ! ============================================= Hello Team Brasil - Brazil,Ever since I returned to crunching, seeing your thread with the sunglasses smiley has given my mood a lift each and every day. On cold, gray days it made me think sun, samba an joy of life. So, I found it about time to pop in and say a friendly hello to you Brazilians. ![]() Hello little mermaid ! Very amable from you invest time to left some words here in our team/country thread ! On behalf of all Brazilians, I can talk that you are ever welcome here, and mainly in our country, Brazil (but we prefer that you call and write about us as Brasil, that's the true and correct name of our country). Sorry if we post messages here, almost all in Portuguese, but is more easy for almost all Brazilians and team coleagues if we communicate in our main language. We have a lot of sunny and warm days, from south to north, from east to west of the country, and sunny days is one of our trademarks atractions, once almost all country are in tropical zone. But we have some places were you can find a little bit of snow during the winter season (we are in the end of winter here, almost in the Spring time... in the south hemisphere the seasons are the oposite of north hemisphere...). Some places, on the top of mountains have annual averages temperatures around 10 celsius degrees in the south region of Brasil. It is cold for us, in general. Samba music is a national passion, mainly in the Atlantic coast cities along the shore, but all Brazilians cities have passioned people for Samba music (in the many variations and kind of Samba that there are here). The main Samba city, for sure is Rio de Janeiro, due the Carnival holidays parties, but many cities have similar parties like that, and in many cases like Sao Paulo and Salvador cities, the Carnival parties are huge like in Rio de Janeiro. But, be aware that for Brazilians in genral, Samba isn't just a matter of Carnival... is something like a expression of soul and state of spirit in songs and dances, very, very popular here ! But, I think and prefer beleive that the best of Brasil, for sure, is the celebration and enjoy of life in many importants aspects. It's the basic of Brazilains souls ! Hope that you can visit Brasil some day, and taste personally a sample of our friendship (maybe visiting the Amazon area or any other exuberants places that we have here !). Just to coment, little mermaid means "pequena sereia" in Portuguese language that's our official language (despite fo the speaked and written language in Brazil be distinct of the same in Portugal, both forms use the same grammar... something similar with that happens between USA and England). Thank you very much for your message here, be safe, and have a good night from Brasil ! Best Regards ! =============================================
Cheers ! GIB@

As founding Base Camper it's part of my job to keep myself informed as well as possible.
I noticed that marist_college today took time out to fill in his/her "index card" in "My Profile" so I - and everyone else - can read he/she is from Poughkeepsie, New York. Thank you. I hope everybody else will follow marist_college's example and should be pleased if my fellow crunchers realize how important it can be - it can even prevent skirmishes |

Time to revive this thread.
Birmingham is in England - it is also in Alabama, USA So, for the sake of everybody who is interested in Geography, fill in your "My Forum Profile", please. It's an enrichment of my - and probably several other members' - crunching experience - and it can prevent skirmishes |

Well I'm not from Corfe. I was born in Yorkshire, in the UK.
I moved to the south coast about 60 years ago, and have lived there on and off ever since. There is a Castle not too far away called Corfe Castle, and if you say Far Corfe as one word, you might find yourself saying something rather rude. Don't tell any of the CA's or they might make me get rid if it |

There IS something about Yorkshire people for sure.
I remember the pronunciation of Far Corfe from the olden days - and I shall certainly not tell the CAs - that attraction I also issued myself a raincheck for - oh my, oh my, I hear rhinos in my sleep - think I'll find the bed and find out if they are still there |
