Re: Computing for Clean Water 64 bit - version 6.16

Well, the four that I managed to snag from the original 1000, finally finished - although were a lot, lot, lot longer than the others that are being reported here.

As I hadn't rebooted my machine for 14 days, I've taken the opportunity to do so (after performing some Windows updates), and I've now managed to snag 4 more - so, we'll see as to how these go...

The results of the original 4, were;
Result Name Device Name Status Sent Time Time Due /

Re: Computing for Clean Water 64 bit - version 6.16

I've got an issue. I had two WUs waiting on one of my systems (Mac Mini with BOINC 6.10.58 and beta12 version 616), I started the WUs and they immediately crashed with computation errors.

These were BETA_c4cw_target03_061014534_0 and BETA_c4cw_target03_061015037_0.

The remnants have been posted back to the servers.

Re: Computing for Clean Water 64 bit - version 6.16

I just got four more and they also blew. BETA_c4cw_target03_061029592_0, BETA_c4cw_target03_061027088_0, BETA_c4cw_target03_061023005_0, and BETA_c4cw_target03_061022364_0.

And another one, BETA_c4cw_target03_061022776_0.

All say "Output file BETA_c4cw_target03_..._0_0 for task BETA_c4cw_target03_..._0 absent"

Re: Computing for Clean Water 64 bit - version 6.16

andreic,

Can you please post your stderr log in the result status page?

anhhai,

Your processor on that machine is 64 bit. I feel that your operating system is running 64 bit as well. Can you please take a look at your stderrdae.txt and look for a line similar to this...

2/21/2011 9:49:28 AM Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for windows_intelx86

The reason I suspect this is that if you were running 32 bit OS, then the application should have crashed instantly when trying to run it.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: Computing for Clean Water 64 bit - version 6.16

If the client is 32 bits, the other line 15-20 further down says something like this:

22-02-2011 07:51 OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Home Premium x86 Edition, Service Pack 1, v.721, (06.01.7601.00)

Re: Computing for Clean Water 64 bit

Think btw, that someone (Ingleside?) commented that a 64 bit client is not a requirement, just the OS needing to be 64 bit, but could be mistaken.

Yes, starting with the v6.10.xx-version of clients, it doesn't matter if the BOINC-client is 32-bit or not. It will still report the "main" OS-platform, and for anyone running a 64-bit windows-OS this will be "windows_x86_64".

Now, if this change was included for all v6.10.xx-clients, or maybe just the later ones I don't remember, but a quick test reveals that atleast with the 32-bit v6.10.58 (didn't test the WCG-one) it's reporting as 64-bit platform, and SIMAP happily downloaded some 64-bit-application-work.

The first Linux64 Beta has a strange runtime. Looking to the results it says, it was running version 6.15:

The later four I got, are currently running a heck of a lot faster than the first batch... So far, at around the 33% stage, they've taken ~2 hrs...

Uplinger,

I sent a file to support@worldcommunitygrid.org. It was way too big to post here.

Re: Computing for Clean Water 64 bit - version 6.16

Ok, I have figured out the issue with some members noticing 32 bit versions of the code. If you have a 32 bit machine that received work. Please take a look at the stderr and it will show 6.15 as the version number. About 150 work units in the first batch of 1000 were sent out using the old binary. This was a mistake on my part. I had loaded the work and then updated the application versions.

Version 6.16 runs only on 64 bit :). If you see 6.15, then these work units were part of my mistake. Again, sorry for the confusion and thank you for your help!
