We managed to get in contact with a software company called Kitware which is specialized on data visualization, e.g., for chemical information. This seems like the perfect match as they already have open source modules and plug-in tools for a number of the result visualizations we had planned for the user interface of CEPDB. In return, we will provide them with a copy of the CEP results to test their own database engine on a large set of computational chemistry data. We are very excited about this collaboration, in particular because the guys from Kitware are exceedingly nice and helpful. We’ll keep you updated on how things are going.

Jarrod - another grad student from the Aspuru-Guzik Group - is currently over in California to work with Dr Sergei Tretiak at Las Alamos National Lab on a summer project. He takes our CEP data to do an analysis of the performance of certain models we are employing in the project, identify deficiencies, and improve the models based on the gained insights. We are happy to have Jarrod on the team for a while.

Now that Leon has decided not to continue to work in CEP, Supriya has stepped up and is taking over his work on the data-mining front. She is currently playing with tools like KNIME and implementing them as a feature in our CEPDB user frontend.

We wanted to give you an update on our data storage situation: After commissioning Jabba3 and doing some partition-cleanup on Jabba2 we are finally in calmer waters on the data front and not so short on space. We had a big problem getting the hds we need for Jabba as the Hitachi plant in Thailand was flooded last fall. Anyways, we are now much more relaxed than we were two months ago – thanks to Roberto and Suleyman for a great job on the Jabbas!
