Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

In case anyone thinks that Jabba and Dawn are anything awesome... see this from my little home Linux system:
Hmmmm...average file size ~ 300 MB...somebody has quite a collection of...something. One is tempted to divide by 768 kbps video, 128 kbs audio. whistling

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

I am watching and listening to the graduation proceedings. I am going to exceed the limits of this forum, to ask, you guys are from all over the globe. Are you aware of how fortunate you are to be based in this august institution, as good as the best we have, with roots in a great tradition, gravitas, and a well focused view of the future. You could not have done any better.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Oh dear... So, while the team had a very busy today, an rsync script caused some trouble on our servers... That script (which wasn't supposed to run there in the first place) malfunctioned, ate up all the memory, and nearly brought the machines to its knees. Due to excessive swapping the user uploads were impacted which we only noticed with quite a delay. We are extremely sorry about the problem and the tardy resolution. Things should be back to normal now. Please let us know if problems persist.
Best wishes
Your Harvard CEP team

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Well well well, we just crossed the mark of 10,000 years of computing time. What can one say but...

...AWESOME!!!

This milestone is a tribute to our crunchers out there! Thank you all for being part of the Clean Energy Project! You are the best and we couldn't do this work without you.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Hope you all had a nice, long Memorial/Whitsun Day weekend. For the CEP team it's back to the lab and full steam ahead doing research! Crunching on... biggrin

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

After completing his PhD a few weeks ago and formally graduating last Thursday, Roberto Olivares-Amaya has now left Harvard and the CEP team to become a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton University. He’s actually on the road right now with his moving truck (drive safely and don’t get lost in Newark!) ;). Roberto is one of the original CEP members and has made many important contributions to the project. In particular, he spearheaded the library generation, much of the cheminformatics work, and he is the master of our Jabba storage arrays. Roberto really carried a lot of weight over the years and we will miss him badly. Aside from being a fine scientist he is also a great team player and friend. The good news is that he’s not out of the world – just in New Jersey – and he’ll stay in touch. Let’s wish Roberto all the best for his future endeavors!

Second that...as would anybody else who has ever left the Newark airport's rental car lot on a dark and rainy night and made a wrong turn into "lost".

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

On Friday we were visited by an interviewing team for a new IBM WCG clip about the Clean Energy Project. Check out the pictures via the link below. As you can see, the team had a lot of fun talking about the project.
