I don't think they care. :(

of course they are professionals. I just meant that they don't need information from us ie they don't care about all the linux variations. So they probably know that the problem is in the WUs.
----------------------------------------It's the most likely explanation in my mind. Probably something in this batch, like you said. A problem that was always there in the algorithm but the specific WUs didn't trigger the issue. ![]() |

It's the most likely explanation in my mind. Probably something in this batch, like you said. A problem that was always there in the algorithm but the specific WUs didn't trigger the issue. I believe they have an idea regarding the problem but are currently stumped for a solution which could change at any moment in time. If this problem continues unabated, how many people will crunch these WU's? My best estimation is not many given the relatively small group of crunchers using Linux (as compared to Windows) and that universe willing to crunch CEP2 will decline overtime as crunchers will not accept CEP2 WU's with poor crunching results. Granted, others will join WCG running Linux or current WCG crunchers may convert to Linux (as I did) to increase the pool of available crunchers for CEP2, but their willingness maybe tempered by inherent problems that others are currently experiencing. Also, if this problem replicates itself on the Windows platform, this could cause a bigger headache and a public relations concern for WCG. IMHO, I do believe they care but need time to work out a viable solution given the complexity of these WU's. |

FYI -- tried the project reset suggestion, didn't help.

I think we just wait now. I can run them on my laptop, but not full-time. So I will do my best to contribute a tiny bit until I can get my quad back in the game. Hopefully what little we can do under these conditions is of some help. I wonder if they have gotten any useful results yet? I haven't read all the relevant threads, I admit. I really can't wait until we have some decent solar-power devices/ chargers. Right now the existing ones are so unsatisfactory.... I live for the day that oil is de-throned as energy king. Stinky, smelly, blood-soaked oil.

RaymondFO, I guess you are running CEP2 on an i7, with all 8 threads.
----------------------------------------What version of Linux are you using, is it a hard drive install or USB install, and how much RAM do you have? I noticed that GPUGrid tasks use lots of CPU on Kubuntu, and other Linux versions, so I just use CPU 3 cores and get reasonable performance. If I just used 2 cores it would be 95%+ for CPU time/Elapsed time. As it is, with 3 cores, I get about 92% runtime efficiency. Just going by 2 complete but unreported tasks I have CPU time 6.10, elapsed time 6.43 and CPU time 6.11, elapsed time 6.44. Q6600, 4GB, HDD install, Kubuntu x64. I noticed that 3 running tasks seem to be less efficient at around 18 to 20% complete their CPU usage/Elapsed time efficiency was between 81% and 89%. This suggests that the inefficiencies occur more at the early stages. Although these tasks have a VM size of 307MB their working set is only 61MB. However if a task is suspended to RAM and you have many tasks partially completed memory could be an issue. I generally use a low cache to avoid this. [edited this last bit; I sometimes use a high number to avoid switching when running some non-WCG tasks, that reset/fail on system restarts in order to force them to complete] [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Oct 13, 2010 12:21:33 PM] |

I've tried 0 before on switch time but it always defaulted back to 60 minutes, so where are you entering this... website of local prefs and what version of client?

Yeah, your right, wish we could. I had wanted to do this before but ended up using 999 for another unrelated reason. Edited above to make sense.
