Bearcat,
----------------------------------------do you mean 8 physical cores or 8 threads. If you want to compare with other projects I get with the i7 950 (at 3.5 Ghz) which is an 8 thread (4 cores + HT), an average of 8 CPU days runtime per day. This running ininterruptedly 24 hrs a day. 8 CPU days is 184 CPU hours. With the i7 980X (6 physical cores and 12 threads) which is running at 4 Ghz I get an average of 12 CPU days per day and that is 288 hrs per day. If this can be of any help ![]() ![]() |

Bearcat, two days ago I had upload problems on my Gentoo linux after updating of OpenSSH ad SSL. It removed link to ca-bundle.crt. The link is created in the first run of boinc. So I had to type something like this:
----------------------------------------ln -s /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt /var/lib/boinc/ca-bundle.crt and everything was OK. BTW, I recognized this problem in log: World Community Grid|Started upload of E200393_649_A.25.C17H12N6SSi.4.set1d06_1_3 World Community Grid|Temporarily failed upload of E200393_649_A.25.C17H12N6SSi.4.set1d06_1_3: HTTP error World Community Grid|Backing off 1 hr 39 min 52 sec on upload of E200393_649_A.25.C17H12N6SSi.4.set1d06_1_3 |Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site |Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. and after click on update project button: World Community Grid|update requested by user World Community Grid|Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Running harpertowns. From reading the other posts here, seems there is an issue with Linux and this project. What OS are you using?

As I said, in my case there seems to be no problems at all with CEP2. I don't know the exact version, but my device has Debian running on a P4. I'm not using it at 100% CPU (it would run too hot), but rather 50% with 2 threads (HT on). I have 90 CPU days in ~90 calendar days, which looks very good to me.

All the same to me...
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04LTS. one computer with AMD Phenom II X4 (2,8 GHz) and one with AMD Phenon II X6 (2,8 GHz). Poor crushing, VERY POOR results and QUIET A LOT OF "ERROR" (meaning = 0). I do hope that the next version of Ubuntu will solve those problems.... Best greatings from France everybody ! :) |

Q9400 running Ubuntu64 8.10 (intrepid ibex) Boinc 6.10.53
----------------------------------------In last 3 days many errors have been occurring. I reset the project in the hope of clearing the problem but they continued. error -226 (0xFFFFF1E) I stopped the GPU from doing Collatz because a few problems were occurring there but errors continued. error 11 (OxB) I have upgraded to 6.10.58 and the errors have seemed to disappear however the efficiency of the CPU's have dropped 5%.. previously between 98% and 100% .. now- 93% to 98% [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 3, 2010 8:33:21 AM] |

Anyone not using GPU for crunching can without hesitation fall back to 6.2.28. I've not seen performance differential between running 6.10.58 as the .sh kit and the Synaptic version and 6.10.58 has nothing in features that CPU crunchers need. Looking in the BOINCTasks history, the last few that ran overnight on the Q6600 with Linux 10.04.1 LTS show the same ~30-40 minutes gap between Elapsed and CPU time... 8:15 over 7:35 for the latest, about 93-95%. Not optimal, but not detrimental either.

Bearcat, if I understood right the logic regarding runtime calculations your 8 core if run 24/7 should give you 8 CPU days per day and in HT mode (I do not know if the harpertowns can do that) you should get 16 CPU days per day in average and whatever the project or the OS.
