Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

It seems to me that WUs are only for Linux at the moment. I'm getting
there was work but it was committed to other platforms
messages on Win7, Vista and XP machines (mostly 64-bit).

Is anyone seeing anything diffferent?

I have only Windows machines and am getting them, so NO they are NOT for Linux machines only. I have Win7 and XP machines.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

I have only 2 machines, both Linux. However my old machine has only 512K RAM, so I have it not even ask for ddd2.

My other machine has 8 GBytes RAM and two 3.06 GHz hyperthreaded Xeon processors. In 2011, I got two class B work units, and processed them. But now requests for work units say stuff like this:

14-Jan-2012 04:32:34 [World Community Grid] Requesting new tasks
14-Jan-2012 04:32:37 [World Community Grid] Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
14-Jan-2012 04:32:37 [World Community Grid] Message from server: No work sent

14-Jan-2012 04:32:37 [World Community Grid] Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. Please check your settings on the website.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

If I understand correctly from my research the message "there was work but it was committed to other platforms" indicates that homogenous redundancy has been enabled for DDDT2.

Essentially this means that your wingman has to be the same type of machine as you are. Both crunchers on a WU must be Windows, or both must be Linux, etc. (There are some distinctions that can be further made which would specify that both crunchers also have to have the same type of CPU, etc., but I don't know if those are enabled here.) So if the scheduler has sent out the first copy of a WU to a Linux machine, or say to a Core i7, and a Windows machine running a Pentium 4 checks in, it will get this message.

But if you keep trying, luck of the draw says eventually you'll find something that hasn't been committed yet, or that somebody like you has already received. biggrin I know one of my machines kept getting this message for half a day, but it's got three WUs in queue now, so it did eventually succeed!

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

Thanks for confirming that I was 'just unlucky' to grab any.

My machines caches had run dangerously low because of not having been prepared for yesterday's outage. I couldn't afford to deploy a dengue-only profile any longer, so I'm back to business as usual.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

Out of 4 PCs - I obtained 0, yes zero WU's for this project in the first 24 hours.
The only way of getting WU's for this project (or so its seems), is to sit there repeatedly pressing the "update" button.
This can't be right ?!
Am I doing something wrong ? . . . . I've got to Emerald without having to resort to this before . . .
If this is indeed the case, then either WCG or this project is not for me I'm afraid, I just don't have the time to stand over PC's to see that they have sufficient WU's.

The way I get these units is to only select this project when I see that work units are available and then click the update button. And when you do click the button hope there are some for you in the feeder.
There are so few work units to go around, this is the way of things for this project.
[2cents] I think there should be a limit on how many you get like in the case of the "A" work units (2). Then we would not have to micro-manage boinc so much and more folks would get them. [/2cents]

I'm still getting them. Mostly on Windows devices, only 3 on Mac, and 0 on Linux devices out of 5 total devices I have dedicated to this shower. I recently took the Mac and Linux devices out of the rain watch and placed them back crunching more readily available and non-micro managed WUs.

Edit: Device update

On my quads I select only CEP2, set the number of CEP2 WUs to four, set the cache to 1.5 days. I never run dry and eventually fill up with DDDT2. And I never hit the Update button.

Edit: I don't even try with my Mac. I always get that "other platform" message.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

I finally got some work to feed to me after waiting a year!
One thing I am seeing though that is disturbing is that on some of my machines, the task has been crunching for an hour now and I am still at zero percent completion. Is this going to be an issue? other machines they are advancing right along.

Anyone else seeing something similar?

Aaron
