Log in problem [Resolved]

Just installed Boinc and my high hopes are falling. I can sign into this web site with my registered name and password. When Boinc opens it asks for a user name and password. After supplying this info, Boinc appears to contact the server and then tells me the name or password is incorrect. I have verified that it ISN'T incorrect. Was it something I said?
Using Windows 7 Professional, 32 bit, Boinc version 6.2.28, and Norton Internet Security.
Boinc was originally downloaded from IBM. I removed all traces I could find of that installation and downloaded again from this site. I have removed and re-installed numerous times with this identical result each time. Disabling Norton AntiVirus and Firewall had no effect. Boinc has been given permissions in Norton for all internet access.
What is my next trick?

Re: Log in problem

Norton Insecurity... you definitely said the wrong thing, but seriously, we get the occasional report but can't presently remember the fix or workaround.... just know that the WCG kit installer depends on the browser cookie setting or something like that (knreed knows), so you wont have to go through the 'attach' steps.

Sometimes I find it impossible to log into the website through the (Firefox) browser it telling me wrong name or password and then I clear the cookie cache and then when trying again it works. So, clear the cookie cache, go back to the client [advanced view] and go to Tools menu > attach to project, select WCG from the dropdown list and enter ID/PW. In Simple view there's a "add project" button that also brings up the pick list. There's a question like "already a member" to which you say 'yes'

Let us know if still stuck and we'll ask a tech or maybe someone else recollects the cure.

"Norton Insecurity" sad

Cleared Firefox cookie cache. Same outcome. Is Norton a "program of interest"? Or am I just randomly lucky?

Re: Log in problem

Did you go through the 'attach' process as per my previous post? Snip:

So, clear the cookie cache, go back to the client [advanced view] and go to Tools menu > Attach to Project, select WCG from the dropdown list and enter ID/PW. In Simple view there's a "add project" button that also brings up the pick list. There's a question like "already a member" to which you say 'yes'

The client log is saying there's no project associated to the client and still not remembering what the exact cause was.

I did indeed follow your instructions. It does not show up on the Boinc messages, but the "attach" process is the one which asks for ID & PW. It appears the server then rejects them, but it may be that no communication at all occurs.

Re: Log in problem

Don't know if it's critical during the sign-up process, but WCG/BOINC requires port 443 [https] outward to be open for boinc.exe. For sure your browser is set to get through, but that does not necessarily mean BOINC can.

If you ping www.worldcommunitygrid.org it should resolve to IP 198.20.8.246 (it will time out though... for security reasons)

I am assuming these are case sensitive. I can log in to the web site using the exact case which is rejected when sent from Boinc manager as part of "attach to project". Gives "Log-in Failed" message.
