But it might work ![]() What the heck - I',m game to try anything. I have been entering user name. Entering email address doesn't work. Error message says "Failed to attach to project, seem messages for details". Looking at local Boinc messages you find "8/16/2010 7:37:08 PM||Fetching configuration file from http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/get_project_config.php which is the identical message given at each failed log-in attempt. Looks to me as if there is NO communication out of my machine. |

I believe this thread (https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,28979_offset,0#278030) is related to your problem. Bad news is that the resolution isn't in the thread as it was emailed to the person by one of the CA's (TKH). Look it over and if looks related to you I would suggest you ask Sekerob or one of the other CA's to 'ping' TKH for a solution.
----------------------------------------Good luck! Bill P

DatUdderGuy,
----------------------------------------Indeed, it seems that you are in the same situation as the one referenced by wplachy. In this case use the Contact Us procedure (bottom of every page, except the forum ones) to contact support. If there is a particular trick to remove IBM internal installations the techs won't post it in the forum anyway. |

This is all I could find.(Sorry not a software guy) http://www.boinc-wiki.info/BOINC_FAQ:_Troubleshooting_on_attaching_to_a_project Thank you for the reference. This information applies to those who have a project attached and THEN experience a problem. My problem occurs as I try to attach a project, so I never get to the referenced problem. (I'm not a software guy either) |

As the resolution was not included it is difficult to say my problem is identical. It certainly does look like a promising lead to pursue! Thanks |

As added information, when I interact with this web site, there is a delay of maybe 10 to 15 seconds before there is a response indicating that what I sent has been received. but when the Boinc Manager sends my user name and password, I get back a "rejected" message sooner than that. Could this be a simple matter of Boinc Manager not allowing enough time for the server response? Enquiring minds want to know! |

This is not the proper way to connect to your account, but you could try using the weak account key to see if you are even able to connect to WCG. To find your weak account key, click My Grid, and then My Profile on WCG's website. Then
1. Stop the boinc client 2. Go to the data directory and create a text file. 3. Paste the following lines into the text file, replacing the words WEAK_ACCOUNT_KEY with the one on the website. <account> 4. Save the text file, then rename it to account_www.worldcommunitygrid.org.xml 5. Start the boinc client. |

Hi BobCat13,
----------------------------------------Had not advanced to that yet, but with the boinccmd tool http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Boinccmd you can properly attach to WCG without using a ID/password, instead use the account key, one above the weak account key in the My Grid > My profile. DadUdderGuy, in a cmd window navigate to C:\Program files(86)\BOINC or C:\Program Files\BOINC if having the 64 bit client. Enter with your account key (sample here): boinccmd --project_attach www.worldcommunitygrid.org 0ee801cda57e5c375e678076e123 The file in point 4 of BobCat13's post needs adaptation to the correct key if you already tried with the weak key. When I tried it it gave the message: error -130: already attached to project so, phew, I did not break anything loosing that task that's already 21 hours underway, and the url/accountkey are confirmed to be correct as is syntax :P Let us know
WCG
