How long is run for these beta tasks roughly, how big are the tasks to upload & when the windows app comes out of beta will we need to re download the 1 off 200MB file?

Speedy, there is a 1 time download of the 200 MB file. My guess is if you already download it for the beta, you won't have to re-download it. From my experience most of the WUs create a 20-25MB file that you have to upload at the end of the WU. The WUs seems to take about 3 times the time for a HCC to be crunched (9 hrs for me), however it can run up to 12 hrs before giving up (you still get credits -- it is just the threshold).

I think that after 12 hours of crunching a WU, what was left to crunch will be transferred to another child WU.

the 2nd round of beta for windows is finishing up now (waiting on stagger work units).
----------------------------------------once this round of beta's is back they will determine if everything is doing good and if it is they will launch soon.. if there are errors or such in too many WU's they will retool and then release another beta to see if that fix makes them run better. so i wouldn't expect them before oct 1 if there are no beta problems.. maybe longer if there are lots of problems.. but thats just a guess ![]() |

I fear that due to all the problems with BETA, we may get stuck with Linux only...

Hi,
----------------------------------------I would not be too pessimistic. On my side, all received beta WUs have been performed successfully. Mainly two hosts have been enrolled: one P4HT and one Q9600. The both hosts run boinc 5.10.45 on WinXP Pro SP3. If the launch can run so well as the beta, it should represent a "risk-less" launch. Cheers, Yves |
