Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

RaymondFO, nothing has changed to the run times as basis of the comparative test, the credits just a side show.

SekeRob, Spot, and skgiven, Thank you for the input and clarification.

The Unbuntu phase is now complete as the last WU was crunched. HPF2 was the lowest successfully processed WU project.

Windows 7 commenced operations on 13 March 2012 at 01:48:50 UTC. Prior to Windows crunching, the hard drive was uninstalled, wiped clean, and twice re-formatted so no Linux files or boot files was on the hard drive when Windows 7 was installed.

Please note it took Unbuntu approximately 33 days for the lowest project to reach 100 WU's.

The Windows 7 phase is now complete as the last WU was crunched. HPF2 was the lowest successfully processed WU project for both Windows 7 and Unbuntu.

I will wait for the Windows 7 “Pending Validations” to become “Valid” and then post the project write up and results for review. I do not believe posting the results in this thread is ideal as this is an "off topic" discussion. I will start a new thread in the Community Chat Room Forum with the title “The Unbuntu/Windows 7 Runtime Project.”

Any comments or questions?

Emphasis mine.

... post the project write up and results for review.
Awesome!
I will start a new thread in the Community Chat Room Forum ...
The results deserves its own space so, yes, a spin-off to a new thread would be a good idea.

P.S. I'm ok with 'Unbuntu', but I'll be thrilled with 'Ubuntu' wink

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

In the news, HP has certified Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, due to be officially released in a week.

http://www.serverwatch.com/server-news/hp-certifies-ubuntu-linux.html

Think though, I'm still going to hold off till the first kernel update is posted.

And, have to figure out how to set up dnsmasq-base to get rid of these signal 11 task crashes whenever the WIFI fails. With DHCP and use of Network Manager it has to be this version rather than dnsmasq as discussed in this article posted earlier by BobCat13 on these forums: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/printpost_post,373089

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Try adding <dont_contact_ref_site>1</dont_contact_ref_site> under options in your cc_config.xml file. I added that 5 months ago & have been free of sig11 crashes ever since. nerd

During my write-up it appears I used different BOINC clients for Windows (6.10.58) and Ubuntu (6.12.33). Would this issue result in a different runtime result? If so, I will re-run the Windows phase with 6.12.33 BOINC client that I can download from here: .

BOINC continues just to be the manager, doling out tasks. The science apps do the work i.e., it makes not one iota of difference to the run times.

Thank you for your confirmation and that is what I thought. I just wanted to make sure before I publish the results as the last WU was validated last night. Just need to complete the write-up.
