Re: It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!

I don't like what I've been reading. I have 12 cores running and I've gotten 3 WUs - one on 6/18 and two on 6/21. I never see any time (except once) when I attempted to increase the cache and that only got me one DDDT2 WU. If the passing of WUs is based on the amount of time you have contributed to the project, I will be lucky if I ever get to 2 days much less bronze or silver. And I have 4 computers - 2 with 2 cores and 2 with 4 cores - all running 24x7. Something is wrong.

dkt: Where did you get the idea that the "passing of WUs is based on the amount of time you have contributed to the project"?

I'm sure that is not true.

@ DKT.. the problem isnt that you wont get the WU's.. its the fact that alot of other people managed to have the time and energy to manualy force there computers to grab as many work units as they could for these... the rest of us will have to wait till more work units are out there.

I was reading Sek's note that says "So 1,100 results by pushing cache... just enough to get knocked out of the reliability class to NOT get the upcoming A type (If they are still on high priority distribution with the slashed run times".

Re: It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!

It is mostly down to the projects you have selected to run when DDDT2 tasks are released. If you select to only receive DDDT2 tasks, and to not accept other tasks and your Boinc settings want to crunch more work then you have a good chance of picking up tasks.
You should note that many crunchers run their systems 24/7 and have many multi core systems. One single socket i7 system can crunch 8 or 12 tasks simultaneously. I picked up tasks on at least 8 different systems, and most of them came my way when I was asleep. 75% have been returned already.

Dang, I wish I had been home instead of at the office when this deluge hit. I didn't have access to cache settings for 5 machines, with 42 threads. Even so, I managed to get 600. Based on what I've been reading, I may have been able to get a couple of thousand more had I been home.

What is important in this statement is not the absolute 1100 number, it is "pushing cache".
If this member had to push caches above 2 extra days these devices will lose their reliable status and thus will not be eligible for receiving type-A WUs when there are some.
Unless future type-A WUs will be distributed normally now that their duration is more reasonable.

Personally I hope they will keep their special status and still be distributed one per thread only to reliable machines because a shorter WU waiting in an 8-day-cached machine will still be waiting 6 days more than with the current situation. And since type-A WUs are still conditioning the creation of the B and C types the faster they are returned, the better.

Jm,

We do not have plans to change the distribution for type A work units.

Re: It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!

Well...with the way WU's get ate up, I think I would rather lessen the reliability of returning WU's within 2 days by picking up a 100 or more B's and C's then hoping for 1 type A per core. At least until I have my badge goal. Then I will worry about other factors. That and I have a couple machines that didn't fill their caches, so they would most likely hit the Type A list. I'm sure the others who have huge farms have enough waiting to get the best of both worlds.
