Great News. To double the speed means to cut in half the time of this project.
----------------------------------------Woooow! That is amazing news. |

I've gotten some. Initial estimates are ~2.25 hours on a 3.16GHz X5460. The last regular WU took 3.63 hours.
----------------------------------------Not quite 50% faster, but 38% faster is nothing to sneeze at. |

Not sure if run time of the beta is actually a measure of the efficiency. WCG can slice and dice the WU length to however long they want. So even though it only took 1.38 hours shorter, it still may be more efficient than that. |

Got 10 so far on 6 machines with total 19 cores.
----------------------------------------So I should get 9 more with the new beta-distribution policy On my slowest machine ~6 hours estimated runtime @1500MHz on Intel/Win32 and on a faster machine 90 minutes on Intel/Linux64 @ 2.26GHz and FSB1066. |

esoteric,
Actually, we do not split up the work units from HCC. They are given to us by the researchers. But due to the calculations done, different work units may vary some in runtime. But even a 5 minute increase in speed will decrease the overall project a lot, so a 90 minute increase in speed (from the one example above) makes HUGE differences. The average runtime for a work unit on hcc1 yesterday was 5.54 hours. We'll see what happens to that average if the new binary goes to production. -Uplinger |

all 7 of mine are running well (approx 1-2 hours to go depending on which rig I look at). Will give the DDT2 a test since it suspended DDT2 Wus to work on the Betas.
----------------------------------------All but 2 of my cores got one, so am very pleased (7 of 9 ain't bad) with the new set up. Since I don't haunt the forums or WCG, I seldom see any postings till well after any event and mainly an accident if I get something. and all 4 of my rigs are complete different in setup except for the OS [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 23, 2010 4:53:32 PM] |
