touselocalhost
----------------------------------------ifuuse wifi the localhost is still the internal IP 127.0.0.1 which BOINC Manager (boincmgr.exe) uses to communicate with the core client (boinc.exe). If that IP or port 31416 is blocked for these processes they can't communicate. I've disabled just now the Ethernet/NIC card having wifi myself and things continue to work fine.

I decided to instal 6.10.33. Had to use the cc fix but it works. Got the certificate error on the other package. Hopefully no errors on the wu's when completed.

The certificate error is easily fixed by copying a different cert to your boinc directory. This was described in a post about Karmic Koala from me. Glad you were able to get 6.10.33 up and running though.

A typo maybe but 6.10.33 was only released for Mac, compiled post-haste after the all platforms 6.10.32 was put into the alpha test cycle. The permanent platform solution coming will likely be in 6.10.34 or higher, alpha as there are still some very irritating and CPU crunching time loosing bugs.

Just noticed something weird. Looking at system monitor and saw 6 and sometimes 7 processors at 100 %. The 8th one is fluctuating around 20 %. Also notices in the messages in boinc, shows shutting down due to excessive utilization (can't remember exact wording). Would last a few minutes. Never seen this in OS X or windows. Thought about changing number of processors to 7. I did see a utility to drop my freq's to 2ghz from 2.5. Suggestions?

Was the message the following?
Suspending computation - CPU usage is too high If so, this "feature" was introduced in 6.10.32, I believe. The default value is 25%, meaning if 25% or more of the CPU is going to non-boinc processes then boinc suspends computations. Unfortunately, the detection is flawed in that boinc related processes also can trigger the 25% limit. AFAIK, Seti and Seti Beta are the only two projects that have the option in their web preferences to change the default behavior. If you have an account at either of the Seti projects, you can change it there and update the Project. Or you can downgrade to an earlier version of boinc from before when this was added to the client. |

Yeah, that's the message. If I drop to 7 cores, would this stop suspending?

6.10.32 ÏS alpha so expected the unexpected... the developer is aware and wrote "first stab at resolving the CPU too high usage issue". You get this even at 100% CPU use setting. Work around for 100% crunchers for now is to select in client Activity Menu Run Always instead of Run based on preferences
