I thought I had gone thru the whole process of registering, downloading, etc, but I got an email from WCG that states, "although you completed your registration successfully, we have no record of a computer with software successfully installed under your member name... "
I have the screen saver running, and have a window that seems to indicate that software is running. Then I found that my computer is running slow, and when I look at the task manager, it show two WCG programs running (taking up 80-90% of the processor time!) I really want to be a part of this, but am not very tech savvy. Please explain in simple language what I need to do. Thanks! |

BarkBuster, maybe you registered the installation to a different member name. You can see that in the client [Advanced View > Project Tab].
----------------------------------------2 WCG jobs indicates you have a dual core computer.

I don't know, maybe I am not knowledgeble enough to have my computer do this.
I went into the BOINC Manager, but do not see how to get to 'client [Advanced View > Project Tab'. |

ok, if you have BOINC manager open and it's the Simple View, you see Advanced View bottom right click on that. If you're already in the Advanced or Grid view, you see a tab Projects, left hand. There's a column in that view that shows the member name the results are being processed for.

Greetings BarkBuster,
When you pull up the BOINC manager. you may have two different views... The simple view: ![]() and Advanced View. ![]() If you see the first version, you'll have a button towards the bottom right that says Advanced. This will get you to the second view. Once you are in the advanced view, you'll see a tab at the top for projects and Tasks. In the projects tab, you should see World Community Grid, and then to the right of it the member name associated with your computer. Please check to make sure this value matches what you use to log in and the "Dear <membername>" in the email you received. To check the progress of the work units or tasks, please click the tasks tab at the top and you'll see the progress completed on each task and if they are running. Please let me know if you have any questions and I or other will attempt to help you. The software does have many options, but that should not scare you as this is probably just a case where you have created two member names with the website. -Uplinger |

I composed a reply, detailing what I saw, and then tried to post, got error messages, and lost the post. I will try one more time to post, and if it doesn't work, I will wipe WCG off my computer, and maybe start all over.
I have two WCG icons in my tray. One now has a red dot on white dot icon over it, and says that it is not connected to a client. When I right click on it, all but the 'snooze' options are grayed out. The other icon seems to be progressing. When I open its manager, it lists the 'account' name as my first and middle name. I have tried to log in in several places using that name, and the BarkBuster name, and using the only password I ever gave WCG, w/o success. You said, 'In the projects tab, you should see World Community Grid, and then to the right of it the member name associated with your computer.' I can click on the projects tab, but do not see 'World community grid'. I clicked on the one project that had been completed, and then chose the website 'your account' and it opens a browser page that says 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'. I don't see anything that lists member name outside of the email I rec'd. I am just about ready to give up. |

With the First/Middle name different to the name you're now posting here, to recover the password go here https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/login/forgotPassword.do and type that First/Middle name and you'll receive a mail with whatever the password. Think you have 2 BOINC Manager starting at log in, but there can only be one BOINC.exe running at any one time. We'll address that once we figure out where your results are going.

I do not get a response to a request for a password for my First/Middle name. I do get the correct password when I use the BarkBuster name.

BarkBuster, can you please forward the email you recieved back to support@worldcommunitygrid.org and in there put ATTN UPLINGER. I will be able to take a look at it later and be able to tell you if it is a case of dual identity :)
