Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Remember I promised you a while back the sight of 16MW of Electricity being generated out of thin air....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn-D1lWAC6w

The sound track is not surprisingly wind noise. The oooooo sound is the note produced by a tubular gatepost alongside me. When the wind blew steadily it played like a flute. I thought about removing the wind noise but then I would be accused of silencing the wind turbines.

Enough electricity for 8000 Fan Heaters or 238,800 42" LED TV's or 4 million 50W equivalent LED Spot light bulbs.

I know the wind doesn't blow all the time. But when it does.... no fuel required.

On a good day we now get in excess of 5GW of our power from the wind ~.12.5% of the UK working day demand. See http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/

I'll upload a close up soon

I have to confess I find them majestic (Full Screen, Mute on 1080 smile )

Dave

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

I've found some lovely free wifi on my travels surrounded by a lovely inn with comfy beds and huge duvets.

The Theakston's Smooth Dark is to be recommended biggrin
http://www.theakstons.co.uk/Ales/Smooth-Dark/

so.....

The September 2013 result is in and the average temperature from 2438 NOAA Weather Stations around the Globe was 18.74C

The average temperature October 2012 through to the end of September 2013 was 12.375C

Here's another forum friendly sized graph that updates hourly

The graph above is (at this moment in time) the result of 61,144,523 individual temperature measurements taken around the Globe from NOAA Weather Stations since the beginning of 2011 cool

Now the weather station data is looking increasingly ropey so I have had a savage cull on those no longer making the grade (no longer reporting/huge gaps in data/rarely responding with data that can be read) and we are now down to 2438 NOAA Weather Stations still reporting valid data 24/7.(We started with over 2700)

Over the coming month I will be stripping out of the data stream all the defunct stations and taking out some of the obvious anomalies that have made it through So we are still comparing apples with apples. At best the data above is Granny Smiths compared with Royal Gala (I suspect October is only slightly warmer because the Siberian Stations have now sadly gone sad)

It needs to be Golden and Delicious throughout biggrin

I'll get there

Dave

p.s. Someone really needs to explain the difference between Centigrade and Fahrenheit Scales to the operators of the Manual Stations 0C is not 0F (-18C) when recorded in Fahrenheit - It's 32 d oh

p.p.s Full English will be served between 8am and 9am.... I can't wait. smile

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/geor...fuel-duty-until-2015.html

Note Petrol and Diesel are not 20p cheaper - that would only be true if they had cut fuel duty

It's currently 57.95 pence per litre and is the only tax that is taxed (Value Added tax is added to the cost of the fuel...and the Duty)

When the current Government came into being the Fuel Duty rate was 57.19 pence per litre

and then

VAT was increased to 20% from 17.5% by none other that Mr Osborne 1st January 2011

George our fuel is not 20 pence cheaper under your Government ... it's even more expensive with even more revenue going into your coffers

..and what excuse would you be giving for this .........?

Current direct tax take on a Litre of Diesel at the Pump 80.78 pence per litre

59% of the price of Diesel = Tax

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Utter Farce

I thought something had gone wrong with The Global Thermometer

None of the American Weather Stations are reporting any data since 8pm BST

Why?

http://governmentshutdown.noaa.gov/

All of the other weather stations around the globe are still being reported by the very same NOAA site

Climate Science ?

Bin that, we don't need to actually record the temperatures around the clock - let's just play silly political games.

Yours appalled

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2013/oct/01/...mate-report-ipcc-sceptics

Tell me if the reality was so stark as that presented by the IPCC why are they so worried about a few words on TV from Nigella Lawson's Dad?

Surely if the IPCC say we're doomed what does anything said by anyone matter?

..on the other hand wink

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

I suppose I could always strip out the 1274 Weather Stations based in the USA like I had to with those Siberian ones

Let's see just how long the USA stays off-air .........

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

(Reuters) - The operator of Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear plant said on Thursday another tank holding highly contaminated water overflowed, probably sending the liquid into the Pacific Ocean, in the second such breach in less than two months.
Recent site mishaps have returned Tokyo Electric Power Co, or Tepco, to the spotlight, calling into question its ability to execute a complex cleanup that could last decades. The company has vowed to monitor the tanks more closely and improve its water management.

I shouldn't worry Gerald if a great radioactive plume comes your way you'll be none the wiser with everything shut down

Earthquakes appear have also been banned by Congress

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/#%...C%22help%22%3Afalse%7D%7D

The San Andreas could level San Fran and apart from those in the immediate vicinity the rest of us wouldn't have an inkling.

Who knows it could have been hit by the big one already

Literally who knows ????

The NSF isn't paying any scientists a bean at the moment so that's all the research down the pan as well.

This will wear a permanent scar of the lack of a USA Budget

http://www.theglobalthermometer.com/ Third graph down. 2 days 5 hours and counting

(NOT) Doing a grand job over there peace

The Belgian's must be laughing

Did anything stop? No biggrin
