Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

No worries on the Ubuntu frront my favourite so far is Xubuntu

But ...

The Coldfusion code I write all my scripts/webpages in for TGT runs on Windows

At least it's not 8 hypnotized

By the way there's absolutely no chance that April's CET is not going to finish up below average. No way at all. Rest assured that not even the finest climate data fiddle factory will be able to claim April alarmingly warm

biggrin

I have not tried xubuntu but running Lubuntu on four crunchers--give them credit --they will find a way sad

Surely not

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/NaturalHazards/view.php?id=80964&src=nha

I thought the forecast was for continued drought

Just like the parched and barren UK

Has Caroline Spellman MP been visiting?

Just superb

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/...-are-full-of-hot-air.html

"Has there ever in history been such an almighty disconnect between observable reality and the delusions of a political class that is quite impervious to any rational discussion?"

Most probably

But not one that so directly affects us all today as this, to use an Americanism, doozy

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

The flood forecast wasn't entirely wrong, since the area with major flooding was in the Minor Risk area here: http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2013/images/Sping_flood_riskmap_2013_4F.jpg Okay, it wasn't labelled Moderate or High Risk, but note that 2/3 of the continental US isn't labelled at all. PoliticalScience being what it is these days it took some courage to come up with this non-alarmist map.

The drought forecast (" Spring promises little drought relief for most of [Texas, the Southwest and the Great Plains, and Florida]") does look entirely wrong, unless one gets creative about "little". There is a nice 12 week animation that shows the drought-stricken regions steadily evaporating. (And my personal, limited, experience has been that drought maps do tend to be alarmist.) http://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/12_week.gif

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

My current contribution to the World Community Grid's total since joining on day 1 is 0.00958% according to BOINCStats

1 in every 10438 points is mine biggrin

The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is 4.15 times this at 0.039744%

1 in every 2516 parts atmosphere is CO2

The other 2515 parts are not

1965 parts are nitrogen, 527 parts are oxygen, 23 parts are argon

This is why CO2 is described as a trace gas

Carbon Dioxide is one of the molecules used to create the entire planetary food chain... that 1 part in every 2516 - through photosynthesis . Without it nothing lives on this Planet.

CO2 is not pollution. Without CO2 there is no Green at all

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013/ap...g-climate-europe-flooding

There must be ..... http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013/apr/29/un-climate-talks-bonn

Ah yes there are

The first article states

"The EEA has found that the effects of climate change are already being felt across Europe"

but they never elaborate. Could someone point me to where these Climate Change effects are manifesting themselves across Europe.

April has been a terrible month in the UK one minute we have light bursts of rain followed by lovely sunshine and then another light burst of rain and then would you believe it lovely sunshine again.

It's outrageous the damage we haven't inflicted on our typical weather. wink

It certainly hasn't been warmer than normal

censored twice overnight commenting on this headline in The Guardian by George Monbiot

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/...ment-scientists-lobbyists

A completely harmless suggestions to George that maybe just maybe his beloved Climate Scientists might be included in this group.

Removed by the Guardian directly under the banner "Comment is free"

Awesome. I will wear the "Censored by the Guardian" badge with pride.

I'm Mark Twain in the comments btw

Tomorrow it's May

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Gerald no chance at all

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html

January 3.5C 0.3C below normal
February 3.2C 0.6C below normal
March 2.7C 3C below normal
April (to the 29th) 7.5C 0.4C below normal

Looking out the window today 1C below mean

April 2013 will be the 4th month on the trot (and one of 8 out of the last 12) where the average temperature is below the 1961-1990 mean

Or I'm a monkey's uncle monkey
