Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Jim1348

Let's see what happens as the snow melts

The same dire prediction was claimed in the UK last April a drought that was to last until Christmas

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-17690389

..and from the moment of that prediction it hasn't stopped raining

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/982...ce-as-the-snow-melts.html

We have always had extremes of weather Gore or no Gore

The Climate of the UK is Maritime http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceanic_climate the current warm spell is due to Storm winds bringing the heat up from over the Azores

Here's how variable the UK Weather is over the coming weeks http://www.weatherweb.net/wxwebtv2.php

If growing crops in the USA is no longer possible maybe the 6.5% of the arable land that is currently being used to produce Biofuel should be turned back in producing food for the Globe's Hungry.

http://www.usda.gov/documents/USDA_Biofuels_Report_6232010.pdf

Just a thought

It will, for the U.S. hungry.

But don't feel put upon. They almost had to close the Mississippi River a couple of weeks ago due to low water, but were able to blast a channel out of the rocks. I doubt that will hold through August. Maybe you can get an invitation to Kansas to pick up some wheat yourself? (It is the corn that is used for biofuels - a big mistake, but bipartisan.)

Jim1348 the USA is the breadbasket of the World

It's because of the Biofuel that the food prices rose Worldwide

The consequences are Global

Much of the unrest in the Middle East was sparked by this dramatic increase in the cost of basic foodstuffs

Your crops will be back and yields will keep increasing.

Despite what the doommongers predict

Good news

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2013-01-30/u...nment-searching-for-sites

The decision may hinder plans to build new nuclear plants in the U.K.
..
David King, the former government’s chief scientific adviser, has said the lack of a long term-disposal strategy may jeopardize plans to build new plants.

http://www.csmonitor.com/Environment/2013/013...-different-Study-says-yes

Human-triggered climate warming appears to leave a unique fingerprint on global rainfall rates compared with natural warming, according to a new study.

While rainfall rates increase whether the long-term warming trend is natural or not, the rate of increase appears to be higher during natural warming trends.

The result might help resolve a long-standing discrepancy between changes in rainfall projected in global climate models and changes projected by studying the historical record, researchers say.

How much would it cost to completely reverse human-caused global warming?

About 19USD million per year - that's the current cost of 140 tons (tonnes) of bismuth triiode.

It's a short article so you should be able to see the whole thing even if you don't subscribe.

The idea is that high cirrus clouds are made of ice crystals. Ice crystals at that altitude, somewhat counter-intuitively (for me at least), trap heat. There's a link in the article which I didn't follow so I don't know the mechanism but I'm guessing that they reflect infra-red.

Anyway, hit the troposhpere with some powdered BT, it helps the crystals grow larger and they fall out of the sky. Eliminating cirrus clouds would more than cancel the planet wide increase of 0.8C caused by people.

Just one little problem. If you use too much BT, you get smaller crystals and the clouds linger longer than they would otherwise.

So, do you feel lucky?

Re: How much would it cost to completely reverse human-caused global warming?

Absolutely no need whatsoever for "geo" engineering

The Planet is doing just fine at self regulation ... as ever.

It's managed along with the great ball of nuclear fusion to support life for millions of years. No reason to suspect that to halt any time in the foreseeable smile
