Watts Up With That, one of the web's most anti-scientific blogs

If you suspect someone of ASS (Anti-Science Syndrome), look for the repeated use of the following phrases:

* Medieval Warm Period
* Hockey Stick
* Michael Mann
* The climate is always changing
* Alarmist
* Hoax
* Temperature rises precede rises in carbon dioxide
* Pacific Decadal Oscillation
* Water vapor
* Sunspots
* Cosmic rays
* Danish physicist Henrik Svensmark
* Ice Age was predicted in the 1970s
* Global cooling

Top 10 Internet-fueled conspiracies
http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2010/07/19/conspiracies/slideshow.html
In a culture consumed by compelling, daily conspiracies the Web is the buzzing, twitching engine of it all. And despite the hearty efforts of the professional debunkers, the Internet echo chamber has a way of giving even the most laughable conspiracies real longevity. We polled a number of conspiracy watchers and followed our own curiosities down the rabbit hole to compile a list of the 10 conspiracy theories most fueled by the Internet – and their continued chance of survival. Not surprisingly, the biggest -- and most outlandish -- ones tackle some of the most shocking moments of our time. Says Michael Barkun, author of "A Culture of Conspiracy" and a professor at Syracuse University, "Often a more elaborate, expansive cause is posited when an event has expansive effects," he explained.

9. Illumi-Mason-Berger: The Shadow Government

A perennial conspiracy theory that has taken various forms over the years holds that a secret group of powerful men control economies, create wars, famines and disasters for their own purposes, using their governments as puppets. (A favorite: David Icke, a British conspiracy theorist, propounds the view that world leaders are in fact shape-shifting 7-foot-tall reptilian aliens trying to destroy the Earth.) But you can lump conspiracies of all sorts of societies, from the Illuminati, the Freemasons and the Bilderberger Group, into this category. Barkun calls these "superconspiracies," a system of top-down control and order that can serve to make an ostensibly chaotic situation (like a financial crisis) more simple to understand. Forecast: Will last as long as governments do

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Dear oh dear it must be true

Today has got to be the hottest day I have ever experienced in my all my 44 years shock

It's 44C in the shade, the rims of my glasses get so hot they burn my face and dust devils roam across the street in front of me

All this additional Man Made Global Warming?

............

Don't be daft it's Tuesday so that makes this just a perfectly normal July day in Kandahar laughing. I'm back this time around to put the paging system into the new Role 3 Hospital (for background info see http://www.cbc.ca/fifth/lifeanddeathinkandahar/facts.html)

Chill peace

Dave

Watt must be true?... that Watts is one of those that leads you by the nose?

Post from an observant and a REAL climatologist [who could drink his blood, but it probably being toxic too]:
Here’s another interesting one:
Watts just put up a new article titled premature chill in the arctic
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2010/07/19/premature-chill-in-the-arctic/

If you go to the link for the map ( http://ocean.dmi.dk/arctic/satellite/index.uk.php ) and then click anomalies instead of absolute temperatures, suddenly the “chill” becomes warmth.

[Response: This is a common practice for Watts -- especially regarding the arctic.]

175 died in Argentina due to anomalous cold in the region and 1,800 Russians drowned, of which 1,200 just in the first weeks of July... they sought cooling from the heat... not a good idea when you're not fit to swim.

The warmer it get's the more snow will fall in winter, yet where is it... it seems to be anomalously gone like in the Himalaya's where hundreds of million depend on the melt water to irrigate their lands and drink and cook food.

It ain't true they say [baseless], but regrettably it IS.

Way to go DA! Until you came along, I was totally unaware that anybody still used mockery as a form of scientific analysis.

Just giving as good as I get astrolab

See above... a whole load of it

There's nothing wrong with our Climate nothing at all

To deny any science that doesn't support the theory of Man Made Global Warming isn't science at work

note: The theory of Man Made Global Warming

But that is just my point. Sekerob is burying you in scientific evidence which you and your puppy dub refuse to contest except by using innuendo, mockery and opinion. And don't flatter yourself, since you refuse to actually debate the issues by providing contrary evidence.

I stood on a glacier that has retreated over a mile in the last 100 years due to climate changes. That is scientific proof. Your opinions on climate are meaningless. Now if you have ANY scientific experiments.................

Relativity is also a theory. What's your point?
