I got 2 Type A betas on Q9650b: 2GB RAM, 4.0GHz, XP-32, BOINC 6.2.19
----------------------------------------Galveston, we have a problem ... WU #1: BETA_erag_a083_ps0000_2 | 607 | Error | 6/10/09 20:17:18 | 7/10/09 01:14:14 | 0.20 | 5.2 / 0.0 Error was code 29 (0x1d). [Edit]: 1 wingman also got error 29. The BOINC Messages log contains complaints that output files BETA_erag_a083_ps0000_2_4, ...5, and ...6 were absent, but nothing else to indicate abnormal termination, as per TimandHedy's report above. These code 29 errors happened in the early days of CEP, and I think the explanation given was that the simulation was running into the boundaries of the simulation space. WU #2: BETA_erag_a151_ps0000_0, 9.64% at 2h33m, extrapolating ==> 26.5h total. Initial estimate was 41h. Currently, Mem usage = 220Mb, (Total) Page Faults = 60k, VM Size = 1307MB. The low number of page faults is excellent, in contrast to CEP. HCC and FAAH WUs start up with a "small" memory usage footprint (under 20MB) and after a few minutes, this suddenly grows to about 170MB. I did not observe the startup of these Betas, but after about 20 seconds, their memory usage was already at 170MB. Some time later, the WU still running had grown to its current 220MB. HTH, and hope you techs get some sleep tonight [Update]: WU#2 crashed at 20.5h CPU time with error (from log file): Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x008E46C6 read attempt to address 0x507EBE58 On later posts in this thread you'll see that this error happened to many other WUs, and running WUs were aborted by the techs. That's what beta testing is all about ... glad I could help. [Edit 4 times, last edit by Rickjb at Oct 8, 2009 3:53:46 AM] |

Lost another one. This is a different error about 10% of the way through.

Yeah. I'm not sure how they're calculating download. Mine should be able to handle 384kbps quite easily but claiming 297 or something. Just odd. mfolco and others, Running such tests between your place and the nearest server is of no use for estimating if you can fulfill the bandwidth requirements of this beta test and of the project itself. See this post Speed Test The Global Broadband Speed Test for running a test really between your place and Toronto where the WCG servers are located. Cheers. Jean. |

To check what your connection speed with our server is please go to your client_state.xml file and look for the line <bwdown>1.00000</bwdown> -Uplinger But this line is not only updated by WCG but all projects you've attached to the host, with the most recent download being completed. So if i have a boinc project whc is like 35hops away (with 300 ping time and thruput is like 76K) and downloaded a new WU, and when WCG's turn it won't download as its too slow. |

Think this value could even be impacted by WCG's own loads. 1 result per 0.2 seconds is uploaded/downloaded. Some downloaded tasks consist of 10 or more individual files so even when manipulating the value, it would last only briefly I'd think.

I just got one lousy ß-wu, which returned an error immediately after startting (runtime 0.00).
----------------------------------------
I think, this is my worst rate of yield of all ß-tests ever... [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 7, 2009 8:39:18 AM] |

I would say the problems many of us are facing are mainly to do with contention at the Canada end and the fact that they are trying to upload too many tasks at once, so anyone outside that area is not getting enough tasks.
I got one small task! Not good given that I have 5 quad core systems attached to the WCG, all with ample resources, broadband connections, and a few other systems too. In 2 and a half years I have 11 days of Beta! Perhaps the name should be changed to American&Canada Beta! |

If you put your country in your forum info, we'd know where you're pulling from. I'm [sending/receiving] from the Italian outback. ISP virgin media is not too much telling from the speedtest thread. My pings are generally horrible, except for Rome or Amsterdam.
----------------------------------------The beta does not concern me, it's when it gets to production. Then 384kbps is not going to fly for me. Did get ACAH at the time, so wonder how those sizes of task & result files compare to these.

I left my dual xeon machine disconnected from internet last night to see what upload sizes would look like for this project. 3 of them finished overnight @ 13 hours approx for each wu, other three are in progress at this time. All are the ps0005 variety. Was hoping for a couple of the monsters, but it appears as if these monsters are all the ones erroring out. maybe I got lucky and snagged some of the smaller and less erroring ones early on.
The newer quad only finished one overnight (again all ps0005 variety) in ~4 hours and is waiting for wingmen. The other 4 I bumped to in progress to get them through and into pv. The largest file sizes for each wu were in the 14MB range, so definitely not a small upload. Ah memories of AC@H... |
